Darshan and the Significance of Deity Worship
Deities, called murtis in Sanskrit, are an important part of Vedic temples and the Vedic tradition, but what is the significance of Deities and Deity worship?
Worshiping the Deity of the Supreme and using one’s senses in the process of bhakti-yoga, devotional service to the Supreme, provides a means for one’s true essential spiritual nature to unfold.
At that stage, you may view the Deity, but the Deity also gazes at you, and then there is a spiritual exchange wherein the Deity begins to reveal His personality to you.

Deities and Demigods is a 224 page, hardbound book and in those two hundred pages you'll find an interesting mix, a frustrating mix.
If you're looking to Deities and Demigods as a way to add richness and flavour to the pantheons and religion in your Dungeons and Dragons game then you're likely to pick up on all the filler and be a little disappointed.
Despite all my criticism of Deities and Demigods I did enjoy it, at least, I was able to enjoy parts of it and that made it all worthwhile.

Deities and Demigods is a generic collection of over seventy gods and demigods from four pantheons.
Each pantheon presents a significant number of deities of varying levels of power, from ultimate creator beings down to demi-gods, along with many illustrations, lists of statistics, powers, and domains, and descriptions of the dogma their priesthoods follow.
A large part of the book is dedicated to rules and advice for DMs on creating and using deities and religion in general in their own settings, including topics such as The Nature of Religions, The Nature of Divinity, and Building Pantheons.

Up next is a new version of an old classic, DEITIES AND DEMIGODS, written by Skip Williams, senior designer for WOTC's RPG division; Rich Redman, author of DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH; and James Wyatt, game designer at WOTC.
DEITIES AND DEMIGODS is split into three distinct sections - creating gods, a list of different pantheons and a section on new spells and rules for ascension.
Once again the name of the game is playability and usefulness, with much of the chaff from the original DEITIES AND DEMIGODS (later titled LEGENDS AND LORE) omitted in favor of more rules and less gods.
