By the time most of the manga we read gets to us, not only has it been translated and adapted (often poorly), but the art is flipped right-to-left to suit Western reading conventions.
Despite its recent launch, Del Rey's new line of Manga has immediately set itself apart from the vast majority of North American manga publishers by making a number of decisions that seem obvious in retrospect.
I hope that Del Rey's manga is successful enough that they can maintain this level of quality; if Western manga readers have any sense they'll support the line with their dollars.

In what ought to be excellent news for UK-dwelling fans, Love Manga reports that Random House (which is Del Rey's parent company) will be putting out UK versions of a number of Del Rey titles.
According to Love Manga's interview with a Random House UK representative, UK booksellers "have fully embraced manga now." The interview also revealed that Tanoshimi's usual price will be £5.99, although certain series (such as Basilisk and Air Gear) are going to cost £6.99 per volume.
They're hoping to keep their manga less expensive than the US versions, so that they won't lose sales to importation.

I haven't had a chance to see the books for myself yet, but in another forum, reviewers noted that the paper used was too brittle, like the paper that manga in Japan uses, and the printing was having some problems, particularly in fl areas that came out splotchy.

Del Rey Manga, the manga imprint of science fiction and fantasy publisher Del Rey Books, itself an imprint of the Random House Publishing Group, announced that they will publishing the manga adaptation of the recent anime series Gundam SEED Destiny.
The new series is the follow-up to the previous Gundam SEED five-volume manga series, also published in America by Del Rey.
Like the first Gundam SEED manga adaptation, Gundam SEED Destiny is a property of Japanese trade book and magazine publisher Kodansha, who entered into a partnership with Del Rey in 2003 to publish its manga titles in America.
