Delamere Forest - Ridden & Reviewed by Cycle1st
Delamere Forest is a well known venue for Mountain Bikers in the North West of England and especially those living within the Merseyside, Manchester and Greater Manchester areas.
The main B5152 road separates the forest into two sections and it is well worth trying the other side for some awesome short technical descents as well as fast flowing single track descents with short steep climbs.
We have certainly found that no matter how many times you visit Delamere you'll always come across something new, be it an unexplored track leading into the forest to a drop off or decent that you fancy having a crack at.

Delamere Regional Event 30/1/05 - Results
This forest continually evolves, each edition of the map shows in the green and yellow screens how it is thinned, cleared and re-establishes itself.
The marrying of the 2 maps was not entirely straightforward, since Delamere had a 2.5m contour interval whilst Old Pale and Nettleford had been surveyed at 5m.
The planner's task wasn't helped when, by some quirk of fate, Forest Enterprise started to "thin out" some prime stretches of light green forest, and by the inevitable discovery that certain sites selected during an armchair planning exercise were not valid owing to inaccuracies of the existing map.

Been doing Delamere for over 5 years now, the trick is to leave the firebreaks and use all of the little hidden singletrack.
I'm not a playbiker, or particularly good at downhills, and delamere isn't the usual x-country kind of riding that I do, but it is very useful to develop skills that you use on nearly every ride you do.

This work follows directly from the results of a pre-field trip report carried out in Delamere Forest, Cheshire, UK, as a precursor to the Santa Cruz Project and which acted as a 'test-bed' for many of the ideas forming the basis of the Santa Cruz field work.
