  Deletion Information
For example, file deletion is usually achieved by removing metadata structures (like inodes) describing the file from the file system, without destroying the contents of the file, which remain in the same physical location on the disk until it is overwritten by newer files.
Sometimes information that appears deleted for one group of agents is not necessarily such for another; a good example is article deletion in wikis, which is usually a reversible process: "deleted" articles are simply hidden for the general public, but can still be viewed and restored ("undeleted") by administrators.
Deletion is distinct from data loss; both cause removal of information, but deletion is a voluntary action, while data loss results in data becoming unreadable as a result of an error.

This policy does not apply to self-reverts, correcting simple vandalism, reversions for the purpose of maintenance or the Sandbox, or reverting the edits of a banned or blocked user.

Not Notable: Wikipedia's Arbitrary Deletion Policy
There is no clear policy or even guideline that says why the article might be deleted, so this ultimately boils down to individual opinions.
While administrators have a fair amount of discretion, deletion is largely a vote by established users.
Of course, the group of people who vote on articles for deletion tend to be self-selecting; I believe they self select toward people who err on the side of deletion.

Archaepedia:Criteria for speedy deletion - Archaepedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
The "Speedy deletion" policy governs limited cases where Archaepedia administrators may delete Archaepedia pages or media "on sight" without further debate, as in the cases of patent nonsense or pure vandalism.
Sometimes speedy deletion criteria are applied to articles that they do not and were not intended to apply to; also, rules that are not speedy deletion rules are often mistakenly used to justify speedy deletion.
Before deleting a page, an admin should check the page history to assess whether it would instead be possible to restore and salvage a previous version.

REQUEST FOR DELETION OF POLICY DOCUMENTS
CD 200 and the associated Standard Operating Practices (SOP 200) are being deleted as they no longer reflect CSC's Policy Framework as approved in principle at the January 2002 Executive Committee meeting.
The Policy Framework was revised to clarify accountabilities and include criteria to better distinguish policy from operational procedures.
With the development of a new policy framework and process designed to reduce policy, a policy on policy would be self-defeating.

 GNSO | Deletes Final Report
Currently, a non-renewed name has to be affirmatively “deleted” (as opposed to lapsing on its own) because the registry automatically renews a domain name for another year on the date it is scheduled to expire (and bills the associated registrar the annual registry fee).
During discussion of specific policy recommendations, various task force members raised the question of how these recommendations would be enforced.  One of the greatest boons of these recommendations is that they provide greater consistency and transparency in the deletion process.  If the recommendations are not uniformly and universally implemented, this consistency is undermined.
Additionally, the policy recommendations are likely to require changes in the Registry Registrar Agreements and Registry Accreditation Agreement as they are implemented.  However, the recommendations are expected to have low technical impact and cost, with a high level of acceptance.
