Governo: Devido à renúncia de Jânio Quadros e sendo o, então, Vice-Presidente, assume a Presidência da República em 08.09.1961 até 24.01.1963, em regime parlamentarista, e, de 24.01.1963 a 31.03.1964, em regime presidencialista.

Before completing his term in Minas Gerais, Moreira was elected vice president of the Republic (1 Mar 1918) in alliance with Francisco de Paula Rodrigues Alves, who was elected president at the same election and was to take office on 15 Nov 1918.
Alves was prevented from assuming office, being a victim of the "Spanish" influenza epidemic, and Moreira assumed the presidency (15 Nov 1918).
The Moreira administration, known to the contemporaries as "republican regency", faced a wave of labor protests and general strike in Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi.

In 1871, with the discovery of gold and diamonds, progress arrived in the town of Espirito Santo da Forquilha, formed previously, when the bandeirantes (enslaving expeditions) passed by.
In 1919, to pay homage to the governor of the state Delfim Moreira da Costa Ribeiro the city was named Delfinopolis.
