Someone accustomed exclusively to modern Delftware in gift shops might be surprised by the appearance of antique Delftware in a museum since the ceramic, pigments, and glazes used by most companies today are completely different from those used two hundred years ago.
While antique Delftware was made primarily by thirty or so factories in the town of Delft, and to a lesser extent in Friesland and England, modern Delftware has been made by over a hundred factories in the Netherlands with few actually in Delft itself, Germany, Belgium, and the United States.
Unfortunately for the tourist, she didn't know enough about Delftware to be able to distinguish tourist "Delftware" from Delftware made by De Porceleyne Fles, Tichelaar Makkum, and other high quality producers.
