 DVD Verdict Review - Deliverance
Based on the novel by James Dickey (who also wrote the screenplay), Deliverance is a disturbing tale of four men vacationing alone on Georgia's Cahulawassee River, and the terrifying ordeals that await them in their journey.
All of the sudden the movie takes a hard left into "holy crap," as Reynolds, Voight and the rest of the gang are running…err, canoeing for their lives, trying to out smart this group of Hee-Haws (which you wouldn't think would be so hard, as they have a combined total of 7 teeth between them).

'Deliverance' at first may be frustrating, but it's one of those albums that you can't resist going back to and giving it one more chance, until you've fallen head over heels in love with it.
Deliverance is a good album, make no mistake about it, however it is not the whole Opeth experience.
Deliverance is indeed stunningly heavy, and Akerfeld's voice is, as ever, a treat to hear but there is always the sense as you listen that the album is missing something, that when Opeth were recording it they restricted their playing and creativity in order to churn out the desired effect.

Based on James Dickey's novel, Deliverance roots itself assuredly in fascinating and provocative dualities: liberal modernity and backwoods barbarism; beauty and violence; kindness and cuelty; morality and pragmatism and, atmospherically, the existential and the visceral - situating it a distinct cut above the average Hollywood action adventure output.
Adapted from the magnificent novel by James Dickey, "Deliverance" employs the river and the surrounding forest as brutal devices to gradually strip its pampered characters of all traces of civilization so that they, and we, can learn what lies beneath their cultural facades.
`Deliverance' when it comes down to it is ultimately about the animal instinct of survival and the inherent ability to make bad decisions in the brink of pure panic.
