Deliverance - Satan Stole My Teddybear
Certainly this album added nothing new to the already established genre that it belongs to, though it is a worthy first attempt.
Of course every thrash album of this period needs a kinda-sorta ballad, and "23" is a decent effort, using the words of Psalm 23 with original music that uses the alternating "sensitive" and "rocking" mood that was standard at the time.
Deliverance have gone from mostly positive songs of conversion to their faith to negative, bitter diatribes attacking non-believers as well as other Christians that they don't happen to agree with.

Concerto of Deliverance - Album Information
‘Deliverance’ may be understood as a journey of transition, from crisis and discord to peace and joyful harmony.
Concerto of Deliverance was commissioned by Monart Pon, who is probably more knowledgeable about my work than anyone else I know, and to him I am most grateful.
Only a faint echo within the sounds spoke of that from which the music had escaped, but spoke in laughing astonishment at the discovery that there was no ugliness or pain, and there never had had to be.

 Opeth - Deliverance
With only 6 cuts on Deliverance, one of which is a rather pointlessly short instrumental, I would have bet the farm that "Deliverance" was going to absolutely floor me. Again, a good song with some great transitions, vocal trade-offs and patented OPETH architectures but nothing out of the ordinary for the band.
As the album fades into it's end the listener is certain to question where the band are in their careers.
The last three albums have bore a close resemblance to one another, perhaps to the extent that many of us will find this one the less impressive of the lot.

This album has incredible depth to it, the different vox are amazing, and the song writing is impeccable.
In essence this album is not for the weak of mind stricken with short attention span syndrome, five of the six songs break the ten minute mark but within each of the epic tunes Opeth manage to keep the listener on a short rope of distraction.
The absolute beauty of this album is that the more time you spend with it the more it sinks in that the ragged grip of trickery mocks the listener into thinking they have inhaled every ounce of the experience only to be blindsided with the subtleties that only awaken after countless listens.

Deliverance is indeed stunningly heavy, and Akerfeld's voice is, as ever, a treat to hear but there is always the sense as you listen that the album is missing something, that when Opeth were recording it they restricted their playing and creativity in order to churn out the desired effect.
Anyway, back to the album, This album is a little more creepy sounding than "Blackwater Park" (Which was a fine release itself) Mikael Akerfeldt really shows his capability of singing on this album, I especially like his singing in "Deliverance" (the song).
This album is a change from all of the run of the mill metal albums we've had this year, it's very refreshing, even listening to it after a few months of owning it.

 Opeth: Black Waterpark Review
I'd say the songs on this album are a bit excessive at times, reaching well over 10 minutes, but like I said, Opeth were just developing then and that album is a lot better than most bands' releases at the peak of their careers.
Prior to buying the album I had downloaded a few songs, and this is exactly what happened to me. The songs were not all that impressive from the downloads I heard, but after actually buying the album and hearing them in the correct order (And with better quality to) I was just amazed.
Deliverance was a decent album, but somewhat weakened by their attempts to push their songs past the 10 minute mark.

While the album proved to be their most successful at the time, it was 2001’s ‘Blackwater Park’ that placed the band on a whole new plain.
While the majority of press for ‘Deliverance’ has been in praise for the band, there are some that claim that the band aren’t willing to deviate from their original sound and try something new for fear of losing their core fan base.
As for the heavy albums after ‘Deliverance’, of course they’re going to in some terms similar to each other because it’s the same band, and the same guy is writing the music.

Slant Magazine - Music Review: Bubba Sparxxx: Deliverance
In 2001, Bubba Sparxx emerged in the shadow of Eminem, joining forces with Timbaland to introduce his brand of Southern hip-hop, which he lovingly calls "New South." New South isn't Nelly's Dirty South; it's a Southern-fried blend of hi-tech beats and real country grammar (and manners) with a bluegrass flair.
The album's overall style is inventive and fresh, and the backwoods rapper often comes off like a hip-hop Huck Finn or the redneck version of Marshall Mathers' trailer-park trash: "I've been traveling for some time/With my fishing pole and my bottle of shine," he sings on the title track.
Deliverance bubbles with social commentary (the life-affirming "New South" and "Warrant"), shedding light on the fact that the same troubles affect both sides of the track.

On Deliverance's refreshingly mature first half, Sparxxx brings the mean streets and the hills together, recognizing the trailer park as just another 'hood where life is cheap and a haze of intoxication makes the world look a little kinder.
Deliverance falters a bit following the superb single of the same name, after which the album largely abandons its soul-searching and country-rap magic in favor of less auspicious odes to Southern-fried hedonism.
But Deliverance races to a spectacular finish with the kinetic "Back In The Mud," on which Organized Noize whips up a frenzy to match Sparxxx's machine-gun delivery.

Bubba's sophomore album, Deliverance, was just that: a highly introspective look at life in rural America that cut to the heart of who Bubba Sparxxx is. Critics in and out of hip-hop lauded the album as a major milestone in hip-hop, calling it everything from daring to ingenious, and crowning Bubba as one of the South's greatest lyricists.
