  Sulinet: A delphoi kocsihajtó
Akinek megadatott a szerencse, hogy eljuthatott Delphoi városába, ahol mindent körülleng az egykori jóshely máig érzékelhető misztikus atmoszférája, bizonyára betért a múzeumba is, és jól emlékszik az egyszerű, merev tartású fiúalakra, mely jobb kezében gyeplőt tartva, semmibe meredő tekintettel pózol a múzeum egyik különtermében.
Ebből indul ki, mikor elemzésében a delphoi kocsihajtót a keleti filozófia "belső kocsihajtó", a népet irányító, hajthatatlan, isteni lényegű uralkodójának írja le.

Etiology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For example, the name Delphoi and its associated deity, Apollon Delphinios, are explained in the Homeric Hymn which tells how Apollo carried Cretans over the sea in the shape of a dolphin to make them his priests.
While there is an actual etymological connection between Delphoi and delphis (delphus means "womb"), many etiological myths are based on popular etymology (the term "Amazon", for example).
In Virgil's Aeneid (published circa 17 BC), many places are given mythical histories, but more importantly the then ruling Julian Family are related back to the mythical hero Aeneas through his son Ascanius, whose second name was Iulus (since I and J were interchangeable Iulus become Julus and thence the Julians).

 The Dedication of Delphoi
Ploutarchos (Oracles at Delphoi, 400 F) states that “after we passed the treasure-house of the Akanthians and of Brasidas, the guide showed us the place where there used to be the obols of the courtesan Rhodopis.” Much has been written about this passage, because the archaeologists have been unable to locate the mentioned treasure-house.
Dionysos is a divinity of vegetation whose popularity grew by leaps and bounds in Greece on the eve of the historical period; he came to be associated with the Thyiai as nymphs of vegetation.
It cannot be excluded that some specimens of thyia survived at Delphoi when the column was erected at the beginning of the fourth century B.C. The significant fact is that the column was erected in the area facing the iron obols, as a reminder of the reason that brought the Egyptians to Delphoi.

The dedication of the roasting spits to Delphoi must have taken place in a period in which Nitokris-Rhodopis was the spiritual ruler of Egypt.
From epigraphical evidence we know that Nitokris was adopted by the Divine Votaress in 654 B.C., became Divine Votaress around 640 B.C., and died in 584 B.C. She is mentioned as Divine Consort in the reign of Psammetichos I (664-610 B.C.), but not in that of his successor Neko (610-594 B.C.).
The action of Queen Nitokris in setting up her obelisks at Delphoi may be linked with that of king Gyges of Lydia sending to the temple offerings of silver and gold.
