Born on October 5, 1948, in the Kingston neighborhood of Trenchtown, Wilson's phenomenal talent would be his ticket out of the ghetto, and his discovery by producer Coxsone Dodd in 1962 would change the path of Jamaican music.
Tragically, Wilson died of cirrhosis of the liver on March 6, 1995.

Review - Delroy Wilson : Once Upon A Time (Best Of..)
Delroy Wilson died in March 1995, ravaged by the drink that had overtaken his life in later years, at the depressingly early age of 46.
Delroy Wilson started his career at the tender age of 13 at Studio One, where he recorded his first tune.
Time and time again Delroy Wilson proved to be one of the greatest soulful singers in reggae music, who left behind - especially to those for whom reggae is a way of life - a catalogue of impassioned tunes that were superbly voiced and seemingly immortal.

Delroy Wilson was one of Jamaica's most soulful vocalists, and over a 40-year career the singer unleashed a flood of hits and a multitude of masterpieces.
The label was inaugurated with Wilson's solo "Once Upon a Time" and the duo's "I Want to Love You." Both were fabulous numbers, but they couldn't save W&C's fortunes, and like most Jamaican artist-owned labels, the venture failed.
Still, Wilson's career was considerably slowed by the rise of the DJs in the early '80s.

ReggaeTrain.com...your portal to Reggae music...(Biography [Delroy Wilson])
Like Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor, Delroy Wilson was barely out of short trousers when he recorded his debut single for Coxsone Dodd 's Studio One label.
Wilson's voice broke just in time for the emergence of rocksteady in 1966, and his version of the Tams' 'Dancing Mood' of that year, one of the first rocksteady records, became a monstrous hit, alerting music fans to a new soul-styled crooner to match Ellis, Alton.
Despite being one of the best singers Jamaica has ever produced, Wilson was rarely able to consolidate the success that came his way; nevertheless, he remained a much-loved and respected, but sorely under used and, outside of reggae circles, underrated performer.

The standard practice of the time was to take songs that had already been hits and extend them to incredible lengths by adding additional instrumentals or DJ breaks, and all the tracks here follow that mold.
It’s hard to argue with the talent involved, as artists like Horace Andy, Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, and Tommy McCook are justifiably considered legends; however, I find that in most cases, these extended mixes tend to meander, and I find my attention wandering.
This could have a lot to do with my personal preference for the shorter track lengths (and often peppier tempos) of the ska, rocksteady, and early reggae periods.
