AAVSO: Delta Scuti and the Delta Scuti variables, Summer 2004 Variable Star Of The Season
The delta Scuti stars lie on what is known as the instability strip, a region of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram where stars may undergo self-excited oscillations.
In the delta Scuti stars, the ionization layer that drives the pulsations the most is the second helium ionization zone, where singly-ionized helium loses a second electron, but both the hydrogen ionization and neutral helium ionization layers can also contribute to the pulsation driving.
Delta Scuti itself lies on the boundary between the high- and low-amplitude stars.

 Delta Scuti star
A type of pulsating variable that shows small, regular light variations, with an amplitude of 0.003 to 0.9 magnitude and a period of 0.25 to 5 hours.
Delta Scuti stars are Population I objects of spectral type A0 to F5 and lie in the lower part of the instability strip, either on the main sequence or among the subgiants and giants.
Although superficially like low-luminosity Delta Cephei stars, and sometimes still known by the old name dwarf Cepheid, they display both radial pulsation and non-radial pulsation modes simultaneously.

I suggest that you read a recent paper in Astronomical Journal, "Reclassification of ROTSE-I delta Scuti Stars with Multiband Photometry and Fourier Decomposition", http://adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-bib_query?bibcode=2004AJ....128.1847Jandamp;db_key=ASTandamp;high=41d2d8d2b506958 which suggests that some stars classified as delta Scuti variables may actually be close eclipsing binaries of the W UMa variety.

Seismology of Delta Scuti stars with Corot   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Delta Scuti stars are high amplitude, nonradial multiperiodic oscillators.
The major problem is the identification of the observed frequencies as specific oscillation modes, however this step is important to provide constraints upon the internal structure of the star.
We show here that despite the complicated frequency distributions which can be expected from COROT space mission for a typical delta Scuti star, it will be possible to identify at least some modes or at least the degree for low-l modes from space data.

An Analysis of AB Cassiopeiae - An Eclipsing Binary System with a delta Scuti Type Component   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Abstract: AB Cas is an eclipsing binary system with the orbital period of 1.37d and its primary component is known to be a delta Sct type variable.
In both of the light curves the light variations due to the primary's pulsation are clealy seen, overlapping on the light changes due to the orbital motion as a binary system.
We first analysed the pulsational components on the light curves by MEM and PDM method carefully and derived the pulsational components with three periods as a delta Sct type star.
