  Demetrius And The Gladiators
The day before another big match, as is the tradition at most gladiator schools, a bunch of hookers are bussed in for the warriors to practice their groping with and among those is Lucia who is being snuck in so that she and Demetrius can have a little quality time together.
Messalina finds out and has Demetrius taken away and Lucia is left with the other gladiators and the bully decides he is going to have his way with her.
Demetrius turns out to be a shallow dolt who buckles as soon as something bad happens in his life and only returns to his faith once he sees that something bad really didn't happen.

Demetrius, the slave set free in the previous film, was the focus of the sequel and a tale of his banishment to the arena of the gladiators and subsequently faith lost and regained was fashioned.
Demetrius is sent to find the robe and he eventually does, in the embrace of the young girl he had thought killed.
Demetrius and the Gladiators actually begins with several scenes from the end of the The Robe, specifically the ones in which Jesus' robe is passed on with instructions to see that it gets to the big fisherman, Peter.

DVD Savant Review: Demetrius and the Gladiators
Demetrius clings to his faith and refuses to fight other men in the arena, despite the attempts of Strabo (Ernest Borgnine) and Glydon (William Marshall) to train him.
In one shot she coyly asks Demetrius if he loves women in the same way he does his Christian brothers, and it looks as if she's about to break out in hysterics.
The word 'gladiators' is three times as big as the rest of the title, clearly to encourage confusion with a similar recent title Savant loves to skewer.

he Picture: Demetrius was one of the first cinemascope pictures, and the relatively new attributes of the widescreen system had many aspects that needed some getting use to.
But, as many theaters were not equipped with the expensive hardware Fox decided to continue with magnetic tracks alongside the frame putting the maximum aspect ratio at 2.35: 1.
Demetrius is in 2.55 :1 and the Laserdisc is a perfect example how the film enthusiast was fooled with just the dimensions.

"Demetrius and the Gladiators," released in 1954, was the sequel to Fox’s box-office smash "The Robe," which came out one year earlier and ushered in widescreen movie going with the introduction of Cinemascope.
Sentenced to gladiator training, Demetrius falls into the treacherous sights of Messalina (Susan Hayward), wife to Claudius, Caligula’s chief counsel, and patron of the gladiatorial school.
"Demetrius" earns points for having Susan Hayward play the wayward Messalina; with her henna mane and sultry voice, any man would be nuts not to follow her to perdition.

Of the two films, Demetrius gets more airings today, for the simple reason that it is more fun than its somewhat over-pious predecessor.
One of the highlights of Demetrius is Waxman's own theme for Messalina, the treacherous and scheming wife of Claudius (although her character had to be substantially cleaned up in order to meet the demands of the Production Code).
Heard first in alto flutes, the theme has an exotic, mysterious quality, the appropriateness of which becomes apparent later in the film when Messalina reveals herself to be a votaress of the Egyptian 'Isis' cult.

I heard that the actors had to hold back laughter during the first movie and it is a safe guess that the same happened with this follow up.
The Robe lasted 135 minutes and Demetrius And The Gladiators lasted 101 minutes, both movies were filmed back to back, so I think this should of been a 236 minute epic which would of lasted about the same length of The Ten Commandments (1956).
In the 1950s and 1960s it was NORMAL for epics to last an epic length and cutting an epic down to two movies makes each film seem less important.
