Demigod's debut album is what many will call a hot piece of modern day rock and roll.
Demigod should have done just that, walked away while they were ahead in the game.
Although Demigod comes off with two weak songs, out of 11 found on the album, one is still blessed with an exciting sonic adventure.

Demigod // Albums and Reviews // Lambgoat
In what could likely prove to be 2005's premature ejaculation for best album, the Polish death/fl metal hybrid professionals known as Behemoth have released an album whose musical and conceptual constituents break down the hapless walls that dare attempt to constrain them.
Lengthy album closer 'The Reign Ov Shemsu-Hor," while being the only track that adheres remotely to normal tempos for its entire duration, is also one of the album's best, while providing a worthy flash of Behemoth's earlier incarnation.
Demigod, along with their recent albums Zos Kia Cultus, Thelema.6, and Satanica, belong in the collection of everyone from extreme metal connoisseur to listener of all hard music.

Far from a mere carbon copy of their early work, Demigod in the years between learned that as much as death metal moved on to faster and grosser, nothing hits home like an album brimming with powerful yet creative riffing and innovative songwriting.
While Demigod’s history as a blunt but skillful outfit comes into play on most of the album, these three cuts are fashioned out of a different set of sonic metallic pieces, and to be truthful the band probably isn’t sure how these shimmering works were completed.
Demigod sound like no one, and the band’s unconventional take on a genre full of conventions is something which should land them legions of praise.

The result is an album that is far more diverse than 95% of recent metal releases without, for the most part, coming off hokey or inconsistent.
However, somewhere along the line in the second track, ‘In the Mirrors‘, we begin to hear distinct progressions in the form of an injection of clean vocals and a thrashier riffing style than was heard on Slumber Of Sullen Eyes.
Demigod managed to effectively progress away from the heavy Autopsy influence that was ubiquitous in early 90s Scandinavian death metal without losing any personality or intensity, and for that they deserve high praise.

This may be the album's best track as it's a total blast fest and features some really intense and interesting guitar riffs.

"Demigod" is one of the most awe-inspiringly brutal death metal albums I've ever heard and it still has the good sense to put effort and intelligence into the songwriting.

All throughout the album you'll notice bits and piece of things other bands have done, but by the end of the song you've been pounded in the ears long enough to know that every track is 100% Behemoth.
Pretty much every song on this album sounds just like it could have been on ZKC, which is a good thing if you thought ZKC was a great album like I did, but if you're expecting a next step in their sound as has happened with each of their previous releases you're gonna be disappointed.
Well in metal terms Behemoth remain true to their namesake and that saying as well, as this is a giant beast of an album prepared to grasp the death metal scene in its monstrous claws and toy with it for a while before swatting its head off.

But half-pint demigod was produced on a Mac computer, using Logic Audio, and for the first time in my life I didn't have to work within the restraints of the recording medium I was using.
So half-pint demigod is very much a transitional record for me. It was made at a point where I had no idea what I wanted to do with my own music, or even if there would ever be a second Andre LaFosse album.
A lot of half-pint demigod's overall sound is literally a cross between my two solo albums: something of an expansion on the more spacious and lush atmospheres of Disruption Theory, while also setting the stage for the more agressive, glitched-out sound of Normalized.

and then half-pint demigod was put on the shelf, unreleased, where it sat for three years, while the two core artists behind it resumed their lives.
But the abandonded, conceptually-overloaded, red-headed stepchild of this musical odd couple was never forgotten, and half-pint demigod is finally being given the chance to see - and be seen by - the outside world.
Stuck halfway between solo album and collaboration, existing as equal parts art statement and party soundtrack, it raises a number of questions: What does the album "mean" for each artist at this point in their respective careers?

Now, don't let my overuse of the term "brutal death metal" throw you off, because that is by no means the proper way to classify this band.
Ironically, the solos are also one of the things I don't like about the album, mainly because of the lack of variety in them.
The album opens with a brief acoustic intro before exploding into a chaotic rage which stays fairly consistent up until the acoustic outro of "The Nephilim Rising".

Sure, I listened to their later albums when they came out, but I never bought any as they seemed like run of the mill death metal albums to me. When I got the promo for their newest album "Demigod", I thought to myself "Oh man, another boring death metal romp through mediocrity".
This album contains mostly just your standard metal band instruments, but there are a few odd sound effects here and there on the album and those don't seem too loud that they annoy you while you're listening, nor too low where you can't hear them.
Fans of this band (and there are many) will buy this album no matter what I say, but to those fans that gave up on them like I did, you may want to give this album a chance because it offers something different that their last few albums didn't.
