Tau (Warhammer 40,000) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the universe of Games Workshop's table-top wargame Warhammer 40,000, the Tau are an alien race, inhabiting a small but dense region of space on the eastern edge of the Milky Way Galaxy, roughly 300 light years in diameter.
Although accepting of other races, the Tau believe that their own way is superior to any other, and harbour extreme confidence in their manifest destiny to unite the stars.
Unlike most of the races in Warhammer 40,000, which were developed from a comparable race in Warhammer Fantasy Battle, the Tau are one of only two playable races that do not possess an analogue in the Fantasy fictional universe.

They are actually a peaceful race when possible, asking if others will join their cause instead of fight.
The Tau are a relatively young race, but their technology is extremely advanced, so much so that the Imperium of Man has of late been wondering if the technological advances were all the Tau's doing...
A common tactic is to engage the enemy at the maximum range of their weapons, which typically have a longer range and greater firepower than the equivalent weapons in the other armies.

The Tau are the most open and tolerant of the races in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, which for Warhammer 40,000, means that they prefer not to destroy all other races on sight.
They are appreciative of Humans, Eldar, and other sentient races, but hold their own values as superior above all others.

The Tau are a young race that have built a small empire in the remotest reaches of the Ultima Segmentum, where the Astronomicon is barely discernable.
Members of the Tau empire enjoy the fruits of their advanced technology and the support of all the other races and planets, but they must also contribute fully to the empire's safety and properity.
However, races that respond with hostility or eventually hold up the expansion of the empire are invaded and conquered with the aforementioned advanced technology.

 Tau (Warhammer 40,000)
The Tau have evolved and advanced since their first encounter with the Imperium of Man in the 35th millennium, rising from a hunter-gatherer level of technology to a starfaring race in less than six thousand years.
These influences combine to affect the culture and attitudes of the Tau from that Sept. For example, the First Sphere sept of Dal'yth is characterised as a cosmopolitan society welcoming to non-Tau, based on the set’s location near several alien worlds and the large proportion of Water caste Tau in the population.
As the Tau background material states that they have a limited faster-than-light capability, and the Eye of Terror was located in a different region of the galaxy to the Tau Empire, a separate 'mini campaign' was held specifically for Tau players.

So, it would make for an interesting and distinct fleet in game terms and is pretty plausible from the background, but I would raise the concern that even if the greater proportion of weapons were limited to front fire-arc only, the better turning and speed would presumably increase the cost of the cruisers.
They give them a fully realised, fully fleshed Tau styled fleet and wrote their fluff such that this race came storming out of nowhere, much as the 40k army was done.

The only reason that the Hammerhead is as manouverable as the Vyper in 40k is because the game does not account for how agile each vehicle is with any accuracy.
Having said that, I suppose there is some logic behind races with knowledge of anti-grav technology having better turning on their ships since presumably they'd be able to counteract the g-forces involved in turning quickly a little more easily.

From this it is theorised by priests of the Cult Mechanicus that these smaller vessels are used to mine and harvest as roving foragers, returning their cargos to larger vessels for further processing.
The majority of contact with the Demiurg has been made through these vessels as it would seem that they are reluctant to place their parent vessels in compromising situations.
Indeed some sources point to advanced structures and technology that bears similarity to the Demiurg being widely spread and often erroneously dated on many planets, though whether this is through trade or some deeper association with the Demiurg is totally unclear and pure speculation at best.

Sure 2:ed took it´s time with all the diffrent stats on everything and im not implying that i would be optimal to go back to that but i don´t feel that te game is getting better just because it gets faster to play and 8 year olds can understand the rules.
GW made some good improvments with 4:ed (like the vehicle move and shoot) but there is still a long way to go to get away from full ahead or full halt to teh more refined tactical movement of fantasy wich in my mind is a better gamesystem since it requires a more tactical approach.
