The Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (an exclave of Azerbaijan) borders Armenia to the north and east, Iran to the south and west, and Turkey to the northwest.
The official language of Azerbaijan is Azerbaijani, a member of the Oguz subdivision of the Turkic language family, and is spoken by around 95% of the republic’s population, as well as about a third of the population of Iran.

There is a famous story in Azerbaijan of the schoolgirl who refused to wear a headscarf in the 1920s and was killed by her family in the name of family honor.
