The Republic of Uganda, or Uganda, is a country in East Africa, bordered in the east by Kenya, in the north by Sudan, by the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west, Rwanda in the southwest and Tanzania in the south.
Uganda takes its name from the historical Buganda kingdom, which encompasses a portion of the south of the country, including the capital Kampala.
Uganda has been hailed as a rare success story in the fight against HIV and AIDS, widely being viewed as the most effective national response to the pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa.

Between 1998 and 2003, the Ugandan army was involved in the Second Congo War in the renamed Democratic Republic of the Congo and the government continues to support rebel groups such as the Movement for the Liberation of Congo and some factions of the Rally for Congolese Democracy.

Advocates of Uganda agree that the "world capitalist system is essentially exploitive and in fact initiates a process of class formation whereby local collaborators emerged to sustain the continuance of external exploitation and internal dependency by allying with foreign economic interests" (Hansen and Twaddle, 1988).
Uganda needs to not only diversify its agricultural output by decreasing coffee output (as coffee is the major export) and by finding other sources of viable and sellable produce, but Uganda also needs to move away from the agricultural sector as the primary source of income altogether.
Uganda is in need of a way to determine the supply and demand need of its population and of its industries, while also calculating the limits of its environment.

Obote returned to Uganda and he was installed as President for the second time (Obote II) on December 15th 1980 after a general election in which his party UPC was declared winner.
Absolute poverty in Uganda fell steadily and significantly during the 1990s, from 56% in 1992 to 44% in 1997 and 35% in 2000 (using a consumption measure of poverty).
Nonetheless, Uganda remains the 21st poorest country in the world, with a GNP per capita of only $300 in 1999 (UNDP 2001), and there are concerns that not all persons, households and regions in Uganda have benefited or will substantially benefit from the economic growth and poverty reduction efforts.

The Ugandan army (UPDF) was allowed to attack the LRA rebels’ rear bases in southern Sudan under an agreement with the Sudanese government.
In response to the increased military pressure, LRA forces returned to Uganda and initiated a spate of attacks and massacres, causing massive displacement to largely unprotected IDP camps.
The Sudan-Uganda agreement was renewed in May 2005 and the military operations have contributed significantly to the weakening of the LRA, reportedly numbering no more than around 500 fighters as of August 2005.
