Demolition Man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Demolition Man is a 1993 American motion picture.
Simon Phoenix (played by Wesley Snipes) - incarcerated in a "cryoprison" (which, unlike traditional prisons, keeps its prisoners cryogenically frozen in suspended animation) for his activities as a crime lord in 1990s Los Angeles - escapes during a parole hearing and soon embarks on a reign of terror throughout the city of San Angeles.
Because police officers no longer know how to deal with ultraviolent criminals like Phoenix, supercop John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), aka "The Demolition Man", is paroled from the cryoprison for the purpose of apprehending Phoenix.

The new Sylvester Stallone movie, "Demolition Man," shows us the future, and it's a PC nightmare.
Set in 2032 in the megalopolis of San Angeles, the picture takes place in a culture where there is no death by unnatural causes, no meat, no booze, no smoking, no salt, no bodily contact and no poverty.
Basically, "Demolition Man" is a futuristic cop picture with slightly more imagination and wit than the typical example of the slash-and-burn genre.

One anachronism did creep into the screenplay: when Simon Phoenix is considering which convicts to "thaw out," he comes across the frozen body of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who had, however, been murdered in prison after the film was released.

According to DEMOLITION MAN, LA (actually, San Angeles) in the year 2035 will be a place where violence is unheard of, "hello" has been replaced by the phrase "mellow greetings," and everything "bad for you"--cigarettes, alcohol, hamburgers, coffee, sugar--has been outlawed.
The pleasant surprise about DEMOLITION MAN is that both the script, and Stallone, are funny; the film blends big-budget action and tongue-in-cheek humor in the way that LAST ACTION HERO tried, and failed, to do.
The future world has been conceived with a gently satirical eye toward the late 20th century, with citizens speaking in CONEHEADS-style euphemisms ("enhance your calm"), admiring the "Hall of Violence" (including a preserved LA city block) at the Museum of History, and referring those interested in studying the past to the President Schwarzenegger Memorial Library.
