Demon Hunter was named 1 of 10 "Artists To Watch" by AOL Music and has gotten rave reviews in Revolver, Outburn and Decibel.
Their first release, entitled simply "Demon Hunter," was released in October 2002 on Tooth and Nail Records subsidiary Solid State Records, and featured both Don and Ryan Clark on guitar and bass, Ryan as lead vocalist, and Jesse Sprinkle as drummer; it was produced by Jesse's brother Aaron Sprinkle.

The Demon Hunter, on the other hand, I had received in October and set aside to savor after taking care of other, more doubtful review CDs.
Demon Hunter are kind of dark and creepy, with lines like, "Life is our path, and death our destination," and song titles like "My Throat is an Open Grave," but they don't share Slipknot's angry, something-to-prove attitude.
Nothing about this says "first album." Except for the slower, more melodic fourth and last tracks, which I think detract slightly from the overall disc (one anthem would have sufficed), Demon Hunter is an excellent album, in my opinion.

While not outrightly stated, the main nucleus of Demon Hunter seems to be Don and Ryan Clark of Training For Utopia fame, and their maturity and talent from their time spent in that outfit thoroughly punctuate this release.
While this outing would instinctively be the prime opportunity for Demon Hunter to establish their own identity, the incorporation of so many guest spots almost works against such a goal.

Density is a big part of what Demon Hunter does on this self-titled debut album; when the alternative metal band is in the mood for maximum brutality, it pummels the listener with a dense, noisy, highly abrasive metal/punk assault.
While some alterna-metal bands like to be punishing 100 percent of the time, Demon Hunter's debut is an album of contrasts -- an album in which moments of intense brutality are followed by hauntingly melodic passages.
One minute, Demon Hunter is mercilessly beating listeners into submission; the next minute, it provides some breathing room and shows how thoughtful its melodies can be.

Demon Hunter hit the scene a couple years ago with an incredible marketing campaign with Solid State Records.
For instance, someone may be able to listen to a Marilyn Manson CD and laugh off the goofy themes and violent tones, but someone else may be very afflicted by them and do something rash out of the influence that a record like that has implied to them.
It all comes down to the individual, and I’m not saying to walk on thin ice, because I know not everyone agrees that Demon Hunter is a good thing, but people need to be more careful about what they do when they’re being seen and heard and followed by other people.

Summer of Darkness - Demon Hunter - Music Reviews
Stylistically, Demon Hunter's second album Summer of Darkness is quite similar to the alternative metal band's self-titled debut album of 2002; the headbangers still get their points across with an effective combination of haunting, intricate melodies and sledgehammer brutality.
Those who get the most out of this CD will be listeners who hold melody and ferocity in equally high regard; like before, Demon Hunter has no problem showing listeners their melodic side one minute and pounding them into submission the next.
Some alt-metal bands sound awkward and unnatural when they go for the kindness/cruelty and pacifist/aggressor contrasts; however, that isn't a problem for Demon Hunter, who give the impression that they wouldn't be happy giving the listener either all heaven or all hell.

Demon Hunter earned themselves a few raised eyebrows with Summer of Darkness, a well-produced heavy metal disc laden with guest appearances and some punch-you-in-the-gut instrumentals.
Sadly, the band pretty much blows those expectations with this album, which is less than its predecessor in production, songwriting skill and intensity alike.
As such, general metal fans can easily give this effort a pass, and even diehard Demon Hunter fans will find it to be a noticeable step down for the band.
