  Demonology, the study of demons
The study and classification of the hierarchy of demons, their powers and limitations, attributes, multiple names, and derivations.
The hierarchy of demons was much discussed among theological experts in past centuries and many books were published on the subject.

 Names Demons
Lists of demons occur in some of the darker grimoires, notable among them the Lemegeton or Lesser Key of Solomon.
The first tract is named The Goetia and consists of a descriptive list of the seventy-two demons which were bound by King Solomon with his magic seal ring in a vessel of brass or copper, and cast into a lake (or the sea -- accounts differ).

 Demons Role
Just as angels are the agents of God who act with divine authority to do good works among men, so demons are the agents of Lucifer who act with infernal authority to do works of evil.
Indeed, in Jewish, Islamic and Christian mythology, Lucifer was himself once an angel of heaven who defied God.
Every time he succeeds in inducing a human to defy God, Lucifer gains another soldier in his rebellious army.

  Introduction
As a synonym of demon we also use the term trigger to denote the object waiting to be 'triggered' or 'fired', and then to perform the action it was defined for.
For example, at the before-read event a demon may be triggered which checks the accessor's authority to read the values of this slot; at the after-read event another demon may be triggered which adds some extra values to the returned value collection which have not been stored explicitly there.
We speak about demons in order to give a vivid idea of the implementation of the slot descriptions' behaviour; in fact, the SFK user does not have to deal with the hierarchy of demon classes and their interface.

Demons are often invisible, but can see, usually have wings and can fly, know the future, can propagate (with other demons or with humans), and can die.
Demons come in all sizes, so they can enter and inhabit the bodies of humans and animals, but are inhibited from this by properly-selected charms and they fear fire, water, light, salt, and certain herbs.

Demons who jump from body to body are the most intelligent of their kind, ancient, and fluent in all languages, and thriving on the keen intellect of Man to maneuver.
They are about the size of a small cat or monkey, with a large round head and huge eyes, quite like an alien's for that matter, and they like to do mischievous things like move chess pieces on a marble chess board in various positions, or move items around on one's desk.
There are many demons from the size of specks to the size of mammoths, from unintelligent to overly intelligent.

This was presumably due to the division of angels in hierarchies or choirs taken from Judaism (see angelology), and as demons were angels before, their organisation had to be similar.
Other hierarchies mention physicians, superintendents, demons in charge of keeping the fire of Hell lit, etc. The rest of the demons were divided in legions.
Several grimoires used to name demons by their nobility titles, among them The Great Book of Saint Cyprian, Le Dragon Rouge, Pseudomonarchia Daemonum and The Lesser Key of Solomon, that were inspired by previous works.

Demons not in the underworld are either free on Earth or living temporarily in the abyss before going back to Gehenna, the "lake of fire," to join Satan, other demons, and the unsaved.
One similarity in demons among several cultures that embrace Christianity is the origin of the "head demon." It is frequently believed that the head demon started out as an angel in good standing with God, then after quarreling with God and being defeated, was condemned to rule the underworld.
A demon either exploits a specific weakness in man, creates a certain suffering for man, or wants some special thing from man. Demons are said to have many powers, such as prophecy, that are alluring to men.

 Demons
When a demon invades a human body, it is said that possession has occurred and an exorcism by a priest or shaman may be required to free the victim from the evil spirit's grasp.
Demonic entities are credited with will and intellect, but these attributes are invariably directed toward evil as they exert their malevolent powers.
The demons were described in a variety of shapes and sizes, but generally appeared in human form, ranging from an old man to alleged space aliens, but any of them could change form in an instant.

SUMMA THEOLOGICA: The ordering of the bad angels (Prima Pars, Q. 109)
But the demons are not in a hierarchy, which is defined as a holy principality; for they are void of all holiness.
If we consider the ordering of the demons on the part of God Who orders them, it is sacred; for He uses the demons for Himself; but on the part of the demons' will it is not a sacred thing, because they abuse their nature for evil.
Now it is plain from what we have said (1), that the demons are by natural order subject to others; and hence their actions are subject to the action of those above them, and this is what we mean by precedence--that the action of the subject should be under the action of the prelate.

The hierarchy of the Created Universe, and all the hierarchies, are "scales of perfection" [Latin scala = "ladder"], with the higher "grades" [Latin gradus = "rung of a ladder, step"] being inherently "nobler", "more worthy" -- that is, better -- than the lower ones.
All the hierarchies outlined in the diagram and discussed above, and an unlimited number of other such hierarchies, were related to one another by analogy.

Reply to Objection 1: The authority of the demons is not founded on their justice, but on the justice of God ordering all things.
Reply to Objection 3: The demons are not equal in nature; and so among them there exists a natural precedence; which is not the case with men, who are naturally equal.

The hierarchies of the angels are much more structured than those of the demons, this is one thing offered by god: Order.
Where the demons hierarchy consists of individual demons in order of the most powerful, which shows no real organisation other than the most powerful demons being at the top, and the weakest being at the bottom, I would imagine this would result in demons continually vying for power, with continual power struggles.
The hierarchies of the angels however is much more organised; they lived in either heaven or the ether, which I will continue to talk about later, and they were organised in to three levels each comprising of three ranks.
