Digital Camera Demosaicing   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
The point here is that processing both before and after the demosaicing stage has a great effect on the actual values being processed in that stage, and in particular, the accuracy of an experiment where only data at the ends of the pipeline is available.
I therefore posit that the blurring which occurs before the demosaicing is sufficient to erase artifacts due to this target mosaic.
Interpolation with a kernel of this small size during the demosaicing stage would produce noticeable aliasing of these single scanlines, but as we can see, it is white within the bounds of the measured noise.

Film vs Digital   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Demosaicing is a form of interpolation that uses color information from neighboring sensor receptors to supplement the color information at a receptor being processed into a pixel.
Demosaicing algorithms may also be designed to further increase the apparent resolution by using two sensors to produce three image pixels.
All too often, the term demosaic is used to encompass two or even all three of the steps.

Adaptive Homogeneity-Directed Demosaicing Algorithm Most cost-effective digital cameras use a single image sensor, applying alternating patterns of red, green, and blue color filters to each pixel location.
This paper presents three inherent problems often associated with demosaicing algorithms that incorporate directional interpolation: misguidance color artifacts, interpolation color artifacts, and aliasing.
The proposed demosaicing algorithm estimates missing pixels by interpolating in the direction with fewer color artifacts.

Pixel Grouping for Color Filter Array Demosaicing
This paper describes a new color filter array demosaicing algorithm that makes use of some properties of natural scene images to reduce some of the common artifacts introduced by the demosaicing process.
Lots of people had previously worked on color filter array demosaicing algorithms, and it is only by building on their results that enabled me to come up with something even better.
Jeremy Rosenberger's ImageCooker is used extensively during the development of this algorithm; even though it is a little bit weak on the documentation side, his well written and well structured code makes it possible to build the reference implementation to work on within such a short time frame.

It is possible to design a demosaicing algorithm by selecting frequencies corresponding to luminance and opponent chromatic signals.
For classical demosaicing algorithms, the two most visible effects are blurring and false color.
Having a larger correlation between the color channels increases the quality of reconstruction (in the extreme, the three filters are equal, resulting in a greyscale image), but decreases the color rendering ability [4].

The image is then sharpened to offset the softening caused by demosaicing, which is visible in the second image.
Demosaicing is a very processor-intensive step, and so the best demosaicing algorithms require more processing power than is practical within today's digital cameras.
Performing the demosaicing step on a personal computer allows for the best algorithms since a PC has many times more processing power than a typical digital camera.

Adaptive method, which uses local spatial information to decide different demosaicing algorithms, is equivalent to using different-sized convolution kernels of low-pass filters at different spatial locations, namely, adaptive filtering.

How Digital Cameras Work by Thom Hogan
One of those artifacts associated with sampling frequency and demosaicing is that of moire patterns (sometimes called color noise).
They claim that, because of the angular nature of their array (think of a baseball diamond where each of the bases is a photosite), that they already have the X and Y values that can be used to build the intermediaries (the pitcher's mound in this pattern).
This means that you sample existing data to produce additional data (that's what demosaicing does, for example: you have a G value and you look at the other data around it to come up with the R and B values for that G position).

To get from a bunch of red, green, and blue pixels to a final full-color image, your camera employs an interpolation process called "demosaicing." The final color of each pixel is calculated by analyzing the colors of all of the surrounding pixels.
Because demosaicing is such a gnarly process, camera makers routinely employ different techniques to try to improve color fidelity, and to reduce Bayer interpolation artifacts, which can sometimes appear in the final image.
After demosaicing, your camera performs a number of adjustments to the image data.

Bayer "demosaicing" is the process of translating this Bayer array of primary colors into a final image which contains full color information at each pixel.
This is no problem, since information at the very edges of an image can easily be cropped out for cameras with millions of pixels.
Other demosaicing algorithms exist which can extract slightly more resolution, produce images which are less noisy, or adapt to best approximate the image at each location.
