  Canku Ota - July 3, 2004 - Class Helps Preserve Dena'ina Heritage
The gathering was part of a Dena'ina language class at Kenai Peninsula College in late May and early June and sponsored by the Alaska Native Language Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
There are elders who learned the language as children and have come to pass on their knowledge, traditional college students who are taking the class to complete a degree and others of Dena'ina descent who want to learn the language as a way to be more in touch with their heritage.
In that respect, the move to preserve the Dena'ina language is interconnected with a move to revitalize Dena'ina culture, he said.

E-MELD School of Best Practice: Dena'ina
Using the ELAN (Eudico Linguistic Annotator) software created by the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, a two-tier alignment of Dena'ina text and audio selections was created.
Dena'ina text was then associated with timespans of the audio file by highlighting the desired section of the waveform, double-clicking, and adding text.
The conversion work was undertaken as part of the DATA (Dena'ina Archiving, Training, and Access) project, a 3-year project organized by LINGUIST List in collaboration with the Alaska Native Language Center and funded by the National Science Foundation, under grant OPP-0326805.

Most of the blame was on the weather forecasters that had been saying that the whole weekend was going to be windy, rainy and generally shitty, and I was ready for being socked in for a week.
