At quite an early age — say six — Miss Dene chanced to hear a drawing-room recital, and at once became enamoured of the heavy lead in the legitimate and Shakespeare, and incontinently learnt Macbeth, which she spouted to the moon through the nursery window.
'Miss Dorothy Dene is a pretty and earnest Alice Verney, but this young lady has not her emotion under proper control; she feels deeply, and fails to convey this to the audience; and while there are real tears in her eyes, her tone is monotonous, and her emphasis wrong.
The sad event was not unexpected by her relatives and friends, for she had been suffering from ill-health for a considerable time, and as far back as October last was reported to be in a dangerous condition.

Monterey County Herald | 10/16/2006 | CARMEL MUSIC SOCIETY
Dene Denny and Hazel Watrous may not be as famous as Carmel cultural icons such as Jack London, Ansel Adams or Robinson Jeffers, but the pair exerted immense presence and power as impresarios of the arts, particularly music.
When the Carmel Music Society outgrew the Golden Bough Theatre, in 1932 the concert series moved to the larger Sunset School auditorium, establishing the landmark as vital center of culture for our region and the world beyond.
However, at the suggestion of the Thorps, the boards of the two music societies agreed to combine their operations, which happily expands the concert season for Carmel Music Society patrons and allows the wonderful intimate recitals of the Mozart Society to continue.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, popular recorded music from the United States has become increasingly known across the world, to the point where some forms of American popular music is listened to almost everywhere.
Much of modern popular music can trace its roots to the emergence in the late 1800s of African American blues and the growth in the 1920s of gospel music.
The Cajun and Creole traditions in Louisiana music, the folk and popular styles of Hawaiian music, and the bluegrass and old time music of the Southeastern states are but a few examples of the regional diversity of modern American music.

I was struck how the music is how one might imagine the world of plants to inherently sound if they made a noise growing, extending their root tendrils, or opening their flowers.
As the album progresses the music generally moves away from the organic level to become more rhythmic and upbeat, though we also hear a few ambient synth based pieces--like "Ode to the Flowers and Plants" where a reverbing synth delivers a reverential ode as gentle wave-like sounds lap across the soundscape.
Through their music, they wish to offer all living creatures--both human and organic--the gift of an "enlivened compassion;" and their desire is for everyone to recognize that we are all on a continuous and heart-felt adventure--a journey toward a planet filled with interdependent wholeness, peace, harmony, wisdom, and love.

Reviews: Dubble D: new album Reachin' Out from Danny Ward, drummer and producer
is obviously passionate about his music: respectful of the past, while more than having a handle on the present, his debut collection clearly reflecting a multitude of influences that converge to create a highly listenable opus of rich textures and assured vocal performances.
Brought up on the jazz of Art Blakey and Miles Davis but spending many nights as a youngster on the dancefloor of the legendary Hacienda in Manchester or in local reggae dances/blues and hiphop parties, what you get is a diverse musical blend that profiles one man's love of great music, past, present and future.
Danny sits in the drummer's usual position at the back but this time he's pulling the strings as well as tapping the skins - crafting a series of impeccable rhythms for a series of vocalists to work their wonders over as well as some nifty instrumental tracks funkier than the mosquito's proverbial.
