G6 howitzer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The G6 self propelled howitzer was developed around the ordnance of the G5 howitzer.
Both the G5 and the G6 have been used in the close air support role in place of aircraft, which were often too valuable to risk.
In addition to the logistical mobility afforded by a wheeled chassis, the G6 is protected against counter battery fire and is able to defend itself in an unsecured area.

 G6-52 155mm SELF-PROPELLED GUN-HOWITZER
Although artillery is usually deployed in batteries as described in military doctrine, the G6-52's capability is demonstrated by the fact that a single G6-52 howitzer is able to cover an area of approximately 1 720 square kilometers from a deployment position.
Denel manufacturing divisions, Somchem, Swartklip, Naschem and La Forge provide the artillery projectiles, base-bleed motors and modular combustible case propelling charges for the G6-52 system.
Apart from the effectiveness of the ammunition, Denel has managed to develop a "ballistic similitude" in the projectile family.

Despite the Denel howitzer’s accuracy (probable errors of between 0.3-0.4% of range were achieved for the T-6 during trials), guided rounds offer the best (and most economic) alternative to air power for accurate engagements against hardened enemy targets over very long ranges.
In contrast, the Denel T-6 turret is fully autonomous and allows the crew to utilize the entire magazine in both the auto fire and manual modes.
It should be pointed out, however, that even if the Denel system is selected, it would still allow the Army to standardize by replacing older Soviet, Indian and British systems first, and then replacing the FH-77Bs as they reach the end of their lives.
