Denethor says to Gandalf that he has seen many things, and accuses Gandalf of using him as a shield against Mordor, while bringing forth a ranger of the North to supplant him.
Denethor's stone appears to have been focused solely on Mordor, since this was his area of primary concern.
As for Aragorn knowing that Denethor may have used the stone, it's a possibility - he was said to be wise and capable of weighing many hearts.

Denethor might well have approved of the learning of his younger son, but was angered by the way Faramir interpreted what he learned (with help in that interpretation by Gandalf, as Denethor correctly suspected).

Another problem between father and son was that Denethor could not understand the motives that moved Faramir to do something and so he was often suspicious and mistrusted him.
