Deniliquin is a very old town—in fact, it was one of the first settled in south-west New South Wales—and has a terrific history, particularly with respect to the wool industry.
Deniliquin Hospital was constructed many years ago and we are now left with its legacy, as we have been with many hospitals that were built decades ago.
Deniliquin Council, people interested in the future of the hospital and town, and I as the local State member of Parliament have got together to try to push the redevelopment of the hospital.

Deniliquin is a country town located on the Edward River and close to the Victorian border.
The Deniliquin CAP District includes schools in the Deniliquin, Griffith and Albury districts covering a large area from Euabalong West in the north, Barham in the south, Savernake in the east and Euston to the west.
Deniliquin was established in 1842 as a crossing point for livestock and the development of the Peppin Merino made the district famous and put it among the world's leading sheep breeding areas.

However, ever since the Guinness Book of Records became involved, starting from 2 October 1999, where the Deniliquin Ute Muster broke the record for the largest parade of legally registered utes in the world, each year new records are broken.
As of 2004, Deniliquin’s current record stands at 4012 utes, with over 20 000 attendees in a town that normally has a population of about 8000.
Deniliquin is also recorded in the Guinness Book of Records for the most number of people wearing a blue singlet, which in 2004 was 1328.

Deniliquin's maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at the Post Office from 1873 to 1971, before the station was relocated to the airport in 1984.
If climatologists use Deniliquin's temperature record to examine climate change since measurements first began at the Post Office then what they may actually be seeing is how the urban area has warmed as the town has grown, rather than how the larger scale climate has changed.
The research currently taking place in Deniliquin and a limited number of other urban areas in south eastern Australia aims to improve the quality of these particular town's climate records and the confidence climatologists have in accurately monitoring and assessing climate change.

In 2001 Deniliquin has a hospital that is difficult to manage and difficult and expensive to staff due to the size of the building, compared to the size the building should have been.
Deniliquin is having trouble retaining general practitioners [GPs] and one reason for that is the disjointed layout of the local hospital.
The difficulty of retaining GPs in Deniliquin has something to do with the state of its hospital and certainly a redevelopment of the hospital would go a long way towards assisting doctors to remain there and in attracting further GPs and specialist services to the town.

As the next shipment of blood products from Melbourne was not due in Deniliquin until Tuesday of the next week, the only other option was for Ford, his mother and three-year-old brother to drive for three or four hours to a major medical centre.
On arrival in Deniliquin I was met by David (another Angel Flight Pilot) who is the local pathologist who transported the blood ready for the transfusion on Saturday morning.
