 Ennemond Gaultier
To distinguish him from his cousin Denis Gaultier, he was often referred to as le vieux Gaultier; he was also known as Gaultier de Lyon (Lyons is the nearest important city to his birthplace).
Lack of publication is one of the factors that have made it so difficult to separate Ennemond Gaultier´s music (all originally for lute) from that of his cousin Denis, with whom he was so closely identified: the question is discussed more fully in the article on Denis Gaultier, as in the nature of their music.
He retired to Dauphiné in 1631: presumably this is why none of his works, which were widely admired, were published during his lifetime.

Glimpses of Ireland and the Irish, ©Jane Lyons
The music of Denis Murphy - that divine fiddler - is in the archives of RTÉ, and every time I hear it my feet itch for the flagged kitchen floor from which we knocked sparks when I was growing up.
Mrs Stone knew many younger poets and folklorists too, and some of the uncompromising Ulster patriots of before 1916- Bulmer Hobson, for instance, and Denis McCullough, and Roger Casement.
My friend and relative Johnny O'Leary played the button accordeon and accompanied Denis Murphy's fiddle.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Joan of Arc
But perhaps the most interesting fact connected with this early stage of her mission is a letter of one Sire de Rotslaer written from Lyons on 22 April, 1429, which was delivered at Brussels and duly registered, as the manuscript to this day attests, before any of the events referred to received their fulfilment.
All the witnesses in the process of rehabilitation spoke of her as a singularly pious child, grave beyond her years, who often knelt in the church absorbed in prayer, and loved the poor tenderly.
Twenty-four years later a revision of her trial, the procès de réhabilitation, was opened at Paris with the consent of the Holy See.

 HISTORY OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH*
In the ancient abbey church at St. Denis on the morning of Sunday, July 25, 1593, King Henry of Navarre, the son of Jeanne d’Albret, the only Huguenot who ever sat upon the throne of France, abjured his faith, and took a solemn oath to protect the Roman Catholic, and Apostolic religion.
Beza procured it from the monastery of St. Irenaeus, at Lyons, when the city was sacked by Des Adrets, in 1562, but did not use it in his edition of the Greek Testament, because it departed so widely from the other manuscripts, which departures are often supported by the ancient Latin and Syriac versions.
Because he became a leader of the Reformed Church, free-thinkers and livers and the adherents of the old faith have brought up against him the fact that in the days of his worldly and luxurious life he had used their language, and been as pagan and impure as they.

Architectural Review, The: Cathedral of sport - Stade de France, site of 1998 World Cup
In 1994 it was held in America where there is a ready stock of giant stadiums; this year France which already had some (in Marseilles, Toulouse, Lyons, Bordeaux) was the host, and celebrated the occasion by constructing the Stade de France, designed by Zublena, Macary, Costantini and Regembal, near Paris at Saint-Denis.
In the historic town of St Denis, north of Paris, the new Stade de France built for the 1998 World Cup became the focus of the world's attention.
The football frenzy that gripped the world this summer, raging from France to Japan, from Chile to Norway and Nigeria, was of course provoked by the 1998 World Cup and nursed to fever pitch by the vast vested interests of press, television and advertising.

Charles Denis Bourbaki - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1857 he was made general of division, commanding in 1859 at Lyons.
Bourbaki himself, rather than submit to the humiliation of a probable surrender, on January 26, 1871 delegated his functions to General Clinchant, and in the night fired a pistol at his own head, but the bullet, owing to a deviation of the weapon, was flattened against his skull and his life was saved.
Bourbaki at once went to England, with Prussian connivance, as though he had a recognized mission, only to discover from the empress at Hastings that a trick had been played on him; and as soon as he could manage he returned to France.
