Denis MacShane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Denis MacShane (born May 21, 1948) is a politician in the United Kingdom.
He was born as Denis Matyjaszek, to a British woman and her Polish husband, who had fought in the Second World War and remained in exile after it.
MacShane's failure to remain in government is believed to have been his falling between the two stools of being neither overtly a Blairite nor a Brownite, and thus, in his own words, having "no hand to push [him] up the greasy pole".

British Minister for Europe Denis MacShane was in the hot seat Saturday as he sought to clarify an unguarded comment that dismissed as "a giant red herring" the economic conditions set by Chancellor of the Excheqeur Gordon Brown for Britain's adoption of the euro.
MacShane ignited a firestorm of criticism by appearing to confirm what more than a few politicians, commentators and voters have long suspected -- that Brown's five economic tests are in fact designed to postpone a decision on Britain's entry into the eurozone indefinitely.
MacShane's candor likewise caught the attention of the Liberal Democrats, who support British adoption of the euro.

American unionists, on the other hand, may prefer to believe in the virtues of unconstrained adversarial laborism, but when there is no participation--or an explicit rejection of partnership--and when work relations are dominated by conflict, the result is disastrous for the unions.
