Denis Norden - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Denis Norden (born February 6, 1922), is a British comedy writer and television presenter.
Denis Norden's Laughter File, which showcases spoof adverts, real foreign adverts, practical jokes, live television mistakes, and other various items, which, as he once put it, "tickled our fancies, just when they needed tickling".
Born in London, Norden began by managing a theatre and organising variety shows.

Muir and Norden were renowned for their profligacy, and so it came as a surprise to many within the industry when the duo decided to disband their writing partnership.
Indeed Norden considered cancelling the entire programme after only it's second edition (broadcast on 28 October 1979) and it was thanks only to the persuasive power of Michael Grade (who recognised a long running hit when he saw one) that the programme returned on Christmas day 1981.
Norden's affinity with archive television was unleashed as a result of the success of It'll Be Alright on the Night and he subsequently hosted a number of "clipboard" programmes for LWT including Denis Norden's World of Television, In on the Act, Pick of the Pilots and Denis Norden's Laugher File.

Denis Norden is to donate hundreds of his early radio scripts to a university archive.
The material, which he co-wrote with the late Frank Muir, includes episodes of the much-loved Fifties series Take it From Here, a sketch-based show that starred comedy greats such as Jimmy Edwards and June Whitfield and set new standards for post-war humour.
Norden will had over the material to the University of Sussex in October at a lunch also attended by his daughter Maggie, a student at Sussex in the 1970s, and Muir's son Jamie, a TV producer.

OFF THE TELLY: Reviews/2001/It'll Be Alright on Election Night
Looking at the schedules for 7 June, this looked like being one of the highlights of the evening; a programme looking at some of the classic Election TV moments would have made for great entertainment.
Alas, perhaps as it went out while the polls were still open, the vast majority of the programme was devoted to foreign material, and of the UK material, much involved former politicians (like Denis Healy) doing fairly ordinary things (falling over, mostly).
But there was something interesting about this programme - Denis made lots of references to the election being "tonight" and to "Blair" and "Hague", thus seemingly rendering the programme unrepeatable.

It was created by Edward J. Mason and Tony Shryane, and featured comic writers Denis Norden and Frank Muir, more famous (in Britain, at least) for the series Take It From Here.
Two teams (Muir and another versus Norden and another) faced a series of questions devised by Mason, primarily word games and literary quizzes covering vocabulary, etymology, snippets of poetry, and the like.
Once the answers were given, Muir and Norden were invited to explain the "real" origin of their respective teams' phrases; each proceeded to weave a shaggy dog story leading up to an outrageous pun upon his phrase.
