  Tom Denning, Baron Denning Summary
Denning spent twenty years as the Master of the Rolls, presiding over the Civil Division of the Court of Appeal, after five years as a Law Lord, shifting to the Court of Appeal at his request because he was happier with that post than one in the more senior court.
However, Denning's doctrine has been criticised by legal academics, who argue that he paid little regard to the existing law, and that the doctrine is the result of his attempt to find a resolution that equated to his personal notion of 'justice'.
Many of Denning's efforts to change the law were vindicated by the passage of time (and legislation) — in particular, his efforts to establish an abandoned wives' equity, small print exemption clauses, inequality of bargaining power, negligent mis-statement, liability of public authorities, and contractual interpretation.

Robert Denning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Denning (March 13, 1927- August 26, 2005) was an interior decorator whose lush interpretations of French Victorian decor became an emblem of corporate-raider tastes in the 1980s.
Clients beginning with the Ogden Phipps family; Henry Kravis, whose home, and their decorating, was parodied in the 1990 movie "The Bonfire of the Vanities" with Tom Hanks; Charles and Jayne Wrightsman; Henry Kissinger; Oscar de la Renta and Jean Vanderbilt, to name only a few, began to roll in.
He 'reinvented' himself to use his own word, after Fourcade's death from AIDS in 1992 Taking a lighter approach with more emphasis on effect and comfort than signed pieces of furniture, he used to laugh at how he would coach his early clients with decorating their children and grandchildren's homes.

Denning’s passion for the opulence of “Le Style Rothschild.” These oversized sconces attracted a great deal of attention during the exhibition, and heavy bidding at the auction sent the lot well over the pre-sale estimate of $15,000-25,000 to achieve $39,000.
Denning’s home included several examples of colorful Majolica highlighted by a whimsical Copeland Majolica figural group of Sloth and Mischief depicted as a turtle surmounted by a monkey estimated at $2,500-3,500 and sold for $14,400.

 Craig Warren's Review
Denning convincingly argues that the bulk of dime novel readers were workers, not middle class boys as past studies suggest.
This is not to suggest that Denning neglects the more traditional avenues of research: aside from offering a bibliography of nearly twenty pages, he shows himself to be conversant with a wide selection of dime novels and cheap stories.
I wonder if Denning realizes that his may be the first intensive study of nineteenth-century cheap fiction not to depend on generalizations.
