I was surprised at the death of Dennis Danell, and this entry turned out to be more about me than him.
Denni was loyal to his high school classmate, Mike Ness, and stuck with him as a musician and a friend.
From those interviews I learned that Dennis was happy with his family and enjoyed being a family man. Dennis was still involved with the Orange County music scene, working with his own side band, and producing others.

It must have been hard for the band to play for the first time without Dennis, but I think that knowing Dennis was up there somewhere proudly looking down on what his friends and family have done for him, made Social Distortion play with more feeling and power than ever before.

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Dennis a couple of times, as he would pop into one of the clubs I was working at every once in a while.
Each time Dennis came to our club, he was very non-assuming and down to earth; I actually didn't know of his status as a rock god until about the third time I met him, when the club owner introduced us.
For those of you who are interested in paying tribute to Dennis Danell, the surviving members of Social Distortion will be playing a benefit concert at Irvine Meadows for his family on Saturday, May 6.
