		Dawson is a former Liberal Member of Parliament in the Canadian House of Commons, representing the riding of Louis-Hébert, Quebec from 1977 to 1984.
		On August 2, 2005, Dawson was appointed to the Canadian Senate on the recommendation of Prime Minister Paul Martin.
