Fentie was re-elected in his Watson Lake constituency, and the Yukon Party won 12 of 18 ridings, the New Democratic Party won 5 to become the Official Opposition and Pat Duncan remained the sole Yukon Liberal in the Legislature.
Fentie was sworn in as Yukon's premier on 30 November 2002.

Dennis Fentie (born November 8, 1950) is a Canadian politician who is the current Premier of Yukon and leader of the conservative Yukon Party.
Owner and former manager of Francis River Construction Ltd., Fentie had been an MLA for the Yukon New Democratic Party from 1996 until crossing the floor in May 2002 becoming leader of the Yukon Party one month later.
A year later, Fentie was under attack when it was revealed that he had been convicted and spent time in prison for heroin trafficking in 1974 when he was 24 years old, a fact he had not previously made public since he had received a pardon.

Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie is defending his government's approach to a lodge built in the backcountry over the summer.
Fentie told the legislature Thursday the government is waiting for the owners to provide documents proving they had the right to build the lodge on the banks of the Bonnet Plume River in central Yukon.
