DennisFranz (born DennisFranz Schlacta, October 28, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois) is a German-American actor best known for his roles as Andy Sipowicz, a gritty police detective in the television series NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues and Beverly Hills Buntz.
Franz went on to win four Emmys for his potrayal of Andy Sipowicz on NYPD Blue.
After graduating college, Franz was drafted into the United States Army and went on to serve 11 months in an airborne unit in Vietnam [2].
