Dennis Miller, born November 3, 1953, in Pittsburgh, is an American entertainer, stand-up comedian, political and social commentator and television personality.
He is probably best known as anchoring the Weekend Update segment of Saturday Night Live during his tenure on the NBC TV show, and for his show Dennis Miller Live, which ran for nine years on cable network HBO.
Dennis Miller has flown on Air Force One during President George W. Bush's term of office, and he is alleged to have a "top spot" on the GOP's "celebrity" A-list.

Dennis is often a brilliant comic,but he sometimes does become a didactic bore(blindly defending Bush) and he does have an inflated self worth.
Dennis Miller was an awkward mix of Mort Sahl and George Carlin during his HBO years- only less biting than Sahl (a true cerebral satirist) and more vulgar than Carlin (he took HBO's self- styled "creative freedom" ethic too far, unlike a Carlin who made profanity really count).
Dennis Miller must have taken one look at George Carlin narrating "Thomas the Tank Engine" (He replaced Ringo Starr), figured out that hip, ironic comedians don't age well and decided to try to position himself as a political commentator a little to the "journalist" side of Jon Stewart.

We didn't get HBO until a couple of years ago, but since we've had the channel, we've watched Dennis Miller.

No word on what's next for Miller, but the Hollywood trade papers reported that he's in talks with HBO to work on several other potential projects or specials.
It's been an interesting year for Miller: In March, ABC dropped him from Monday Night Football after just two seasons, once producers had the chance to hire broadcasting legend John Madden.

Hadn't seen this posted, but HBO has cancelled Dennis Miller Live.
Miller would join the ranks of such legendary comedy shows as "Monty Python's Flying Circus" and "Fawlty Towers" which found an American audience on PBS - PBS is the only American network that can attract an audience sophisticated enough to understand this type of humor.
I thought he was hilarious, he told a joke then just went off direction and started ranting about the red dot on women's foreheads in India.
