  Biography - Congressman Denny Rehberg
U.S. Congressman Denny Rehberg, in his third term representing the state of Montana, is a fifth generation Montana rancher with more than a quarter century of ranching and public service experience.
Following his appointed term, Rehberg joined the statewide ticket with Attorney General and candidate for Governor Marc Racicot and was elected to his first full term as Montana's Lieutenant Governor in 1992.
Denny serves as a member of the highly regarded U.S. House Committee on Appropriations, which has budget jurisdiction of the 13 annual spending bills and controls one-third of the federal government's $2.5 trillion budget.

Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg and his fellow House members are aiming to reverse a Monday Bush administration decision to ground 33 tankers used to fight wildfires.
Rehberg's comments came after a Thursday congressional hearing where he and several other Western lawmakers criticized the head of the National Transportation Safety Board because her agency produced a report saying there is no process for certifying the safety of the tankers.
Rehberg and the other lawmakers are angry that the NTSB did not review the safety practices of other companies.

Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg intends to offer an amendment that would require the Agriculture secretary to hire Montana and Wyoming Indian tribes to cut trees in national forests adjacent to their reservations.
Rehberg's amendment would direct the Agriculture secretary to enter stewardship contracts with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes in Montana, the Joint Business Council of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho in Wyoming, and four other tribal entities.
Rehberg's amendment is salt in the wound for environmental groups who opposed last year's expansion of the program.

Rehberg, who on Friday introduced legislation to impose tariffs on Japanese products if Japan fails to lift its ban by Dec. 15, said Japan lifting its ban will encourage a similar acceptance of U.S. beef among other trading partners.
Rehberg has on numerous occasions, over the past year and a half, urged Japan to lift its ban, corresponding with Japanese Ambassador Ryozo Kato, Oct. 21, Feb. 28, and Feb. 8, 2005, and Agriculture Minister Yoshiyuki Kamei, Sept. 14, 2004.
