Dennis Township covers sixty five square miles and was created in 1826 out of territory from the southern half of Upper Township.
The township included the Dennis Creek community, the East and West Creek regions, the Southern portion of the Cedar Swamp, and the Seashore region between Townsend Inlet and Ludlam’s Bay.
Dennis Creek was the first town in the county to have its own post office, which opened in 1802, and was the main port for Cape May County for coastal shipping.

The Dennis Township Ambulance was traveling south on Route 9 in Swainton when it approached the SUV, which was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left turn into a private driveway, police said.
The ambulance struck the SUV, injuring the ambulance driver, Robert Tesoroni III, 29, and a passenger, whose identity was not released.
