In some ways, Denville, a town of 15,824 at the geographic heart of Morris County, is a contradiction: Although it has been touched by the rapid suburban sprawl westward from New York City, it also has, in many ways, successfully maintained its small-town, rural elements.
A new 30-foot clock tower at Broadway and Main Street, sponsored by the township and local Rotary Club, is intended to further develop the nucleus of the township.
Denville traditionally has been called (at least by its residents) the "hub of Morris County," because it was situated at a classic transportation crossroads, consisting of the Lackawanna Railroad and Morris Canal.
