St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and newly-elected Premier of Nevis, Joseph Parry pledged Tuesday to work closely for the continued economic development of the Island of Nevis and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Douglas noted the pronouncements and statements of Premier Parry since he has assumed the mantle of leadership on Nevis.
Douglas also noted an earlier public statement by Parry that one of his priorities at this time is to continue the economic development of Nevis.

Speaking in New York, Douglas said his administration did not plan to spring any surprises on Arthur, who is making trips to individual Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) countries to encourage them to meet the January target for the launching of the region's most ambitious integration effort.

Caribbean health officials are conducting a study to determine the economic impact of HIV/AIDS in the region, which has the world's highest infection rate after sub-Saharan Africa, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas said on Saturday, the final day of a Caribbean summit.
AIDS is the leading cause of death in several Caribbean countries, including Haiti and the Bahamas, UNAIDS has said, and it is the single greatest cause of death for Caribbean people ages 15-44.
Douglas said governments would seek aid from the United Nations and other groups to "widen the net so that all Caribbean countries" can get help, referring to President Bush's $15 billion program to combat AIDS in Africa, and in the Caribbean countries of Haiti and Guyana.
