	NJDEP-News Release 06/04 - DEP Responds to Oil Spill Impacting Passaic River
		DEP is leading a team of responders from local, county, state and Federal agencies to contain the discharge.
		DEP is also monitoring efforts to flush out all the storm drains in the vicinity of the discharge site and contractors are continuing to vacuum product from the River's shoreline.
		DEP's Bureau of Emergency Response, along with Passaic county authorities immediately responded to the call and with the help of the New Jersey State Police, traced the source of the discharge to Tilcon New York Inc., an asphalt manufacturing facility located in Totowa.

	DEP Pushes Peace River Restoration Forward - 05/10/07
		This month, DEP adopted specific pollutant load reductions, Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), for the Winter Haven Southern Chain of Lakes, near the headwaters of the Peace River.
		DEP identified eight lakes in the southern chain that do not meet water quality standards for nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus).
		DEP’s Peace River plan proposes other actions to improve water quality throughout the basin.

	Atlantic Salmon Stocks Report
		DEP noted that the Instream Flow Incremental Methodology (IFIM) studies ongoing would provide important information in that they will determine how much water is needed for salmon, but cautioned that they would not determine the ability of the watershed to support that flow.
		At the head of tide, the Machias River was found to have the highest concentrations of aluminum ions of all salmon rivers in the state of Maine.
		It was not until the early 1900's that the river was reopened to anadromous fish as a result of the construction of fish passage facilities at the dams in Cherryfield.

	Clinton Recorder - Work, discussion continues on waste disposal into the Hammonasset River
		Uni lever was asked by the DEP to cease its discharge of waste into Hayden's Creek, a body of water in Clinton that empties into the Hammonasset River.
		Primarily, they are challenging the DEP's decision to forego a public hearing on the issue three years ago, when Unilever made its request for a pipeline.
		The change in location of the pipeline, the DEP maintains, is a modification of the Hayden's Creek permit and does not require an additional, legal public hearing.

	Litchfield County Times - Falls Village Suing DEP Over River Permit Issue
		FALLS VILLAGE-Upset that the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) didn't hold a public hearing while considering an application for a water quality permit in 2000, the town has sued the agency and is asking for a hearing.
		This means that although the DEP's Water Quality Permit was a controlling addendum to the FERC decision, the public was barred from influencing the state agency's conclusions, as there was no public hearing.
		But after the DEP issued its certificate, the FERC released a draft Environmental Impact Statement that flew in the face of that conclusion, suggesting that fishing and boating were both historically established on the river and should both continue.

		Although I recognize and appreciate the good work the DEP has done and continues to do to preserve and protect the Connecticut River Valley, I am concerned that current efforts are falling short of this goal.
		The revival of the river from its former polluted state will have been in vain if it is allowed to be lost to unchecked private development and closure of public access areas.
		I appreciate your efforts in establishing public-access areas along the river, and request that you provide all assistance possible to local towns in their efforts to keep these areas open and accessible to the public.

	New Haven Register - No boating either in Ansonia-Derby portion of Housatonic
		DEP Environmental Conservation Police will continue to patrol the area to make sure boaters and fishermen are aware of the restrictions.
		Both the DEP and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency responded to the scene Tuesday when oil from the former factory was observed on the other side of a boom, or floating barrier, that had been installed to prevent oil from leaking into the river.

		Johns River Water Management District documented in 1994 the upstream and downstream movement of manatees through Buckman Lock studies have repeatedly reported upstream and downstream movement of manatees through the locks, but a bubble device is now used in the lock to discourage manatee use.
		Florida DEP states that one continuous flaw in previous economic analyses of the costs of retaining Rodman Reservoir versus the costs of Restoring the Ocklawaha River is that once the de-construction costs were completed there would be zero costs allocated for maintaining the area as a refuge or recreation area.

		The North River wastewater treatment plant is located on the Hudson River, west of the West Side Highway from 137th Street to 145th Street.
		North River treats about 125 million gallons of wastewater every day during dry weather, and it is designed to handle up to 340 million gallons a day when the weather is wet.

		WILKES-BARRE (Sept. 27) — The Department of Environmental Protection is working as part of the Natural Resources Damage Assessment Team, a group of state and federal environmental and conservation agencies, monitoring PPL’s cleanup of a fly ash spill at the company’s Martins Creek power plant in Lower Mt. Bethel Township, Northampton County.
		DEP gave conceptual approval to PPL's continuing cleanup plans including construction of protective measures for trucks depositing river cleanup waste in Basin 4 and the use of specialized equipment and methods aimed at removing as much of the ash as possible with a minimal amount of disturbance to the river bottom.
		DEP will continue to work with the damage assessment team.

		The club maintained that the river was not a public waterway and that its deed covered the area adjacent to the property.
