  Department H (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Department H is a fictional organization in the Marvel Universe.
It is a branch of the Canadian Department of National Defence and is also responsible for the recruitment, provisioning, administration and deployment of Alpha Flight.
The Department is also known to have connections ot an orphange in Orloo, Ontario called Hull House, from which it has recruited superhuman agents in the past.

Grabbing it from The Grand Comics Database to post for this article is the first time I’ve seen the image in over 30 years.
This comic is the story of how these five residents of Barclayville fight to preserve their section of town from urban renewal and clean it up from a gang leader who returns after serving hard time.
The part which best embodies why I worship this single issue of a comic book is this three panel sequence right here where the New Aquarians and Teen Titans bunked together on the floor of the commune and are awakened by the sounds of the bulldozers coming to demolish Barclayville.

A flashback: when Logan first became Wolverine by donning the Wolverine costume when working as an agent for Department H in Canada.
Wolverine, though, was already told by James beforehand that he was going to be sent off on a "test run" mission by Department H, so he knew that he was being sent off on a bogus mission by Department H, though he didn't let the official know that he knew.
Much later, Logan returns back to Department H, where James Hudson was being grilled by high ranking Department H officials for losing Weapon X (Wolverine).

Mac reminds Weapon X that it was Department H who trained him, who made him the super agent that he is. He tells Logan that he cannot walk out on him now, but Logan tells James to get one thing straight - nobody knows who made him what he is today.
The very early years of Department H were not spent beneath Parliament Hill, as seen in the flashback this issue and in the Alpha Flight: First Flight Special, they were in an Augean stable.
The first member of the real Alpha Flight was Snowbird, who began her super hero career earlier than the others, being recruited into Department H in the back story of Alpha Flight (first series) #8, and being active in the Flight in the Alpha Flight Special.

"Understanding Comics" works for both those who are reading pretty much every comic book done by anyone on the face of the planet and those who have never heard of Wil Eisner and Art Spigelman, let alone recognize their artwork.
I am using Spider-Man comic books in my Popular Culture class this year and will be using some of McCloud's key points to help the cherubs in their appreciation of what they are reading.
I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in comics, or art, but I wouldn't limit it to those areas of interest.

 The Comic Treadmill: Happy Birthday To Us!
We didn’t keep official numbers, but the two biggest attention-getters were about my bad visit to a comic shop in my town — one to which I have never returned beyond that initial visit — and my reaction to a column by Heidi MacDonald in the Comics Buyer’s Guide.
Which we’ll start doing as soon as the number of interesting new comics blogs slows to a crawl and the already existing ones we like don’t slow down their pace of publishing.
I don't regularly buy comics (in my corner of Ireland the nearest comic book store is 60 miles away) but I do buy TPB's and I like to keep up to date with goings on in the world of comics.

Summary: On their way to Alaska, Cyclops and Phoenix's plane is ambushed by AIM who are trying to capture a creature from another dimension that had been captured by government (Department H) agents and put in a booby-trapped container on board of the plane.
The creature defends itself by controling the emotions of his attackers and the passengers on the plane but when Phoenix manages to defeat the AIM agents and calm the creature it saves the plane by calming the pilots and passengers.

I believe that comic book fans are tolerant of such differences in theory, but in practice, when actually confronted with such things, we’re just the same as anybody else.
I couldn't even tell you which comic it was or why I picked it up (someone else on this board may be able to; it had something to do with Magneto), but the opening pages showed the world exactly as Professor Xavier imagined it...
As a matter of fact, that was exactly the case, as the scene turned out to be a hoax, a dream, an imaginary tale (I forget which), and the story regressed into precisely the kind of storytelling you descibed in your post...

After the dust settled Mr Gentry, the newly apointed head of Dept H, stepped forward and with a no-nonsense attitude and little love for secrets, began to work with ALPHA FLIGHT to get to the bottom of the secrets surrounding Dept H. One such mystery was the resurected Weapon X program by Dr Huxley.
For a company in finacial trouble you'd think that a comic with such a loyal fan base as would be something to hold on to.

He was sprung from jail to participate in Department H, the Canadian government's superhero program that gets cancelled due to lack of funding.
What did suck with the fiery white heat of a million suns is the godawful "origin" Bill Mantlo gave him later on in the run, the whole "he's not really a midget he was cursed by an ancient god" thing.
The comic industry needs to know that if you are going to have grotesque small people on a team make em real midgets.
