The Department of Canadian Heritage undertakes to support the activities of the community sector in question (representation, awareness, networking, etc.) and to help these communities maintain or establish the infrastructure necessary to establish public spaces in their own language (such as community centres, community radio stations and theatres).
The Department of Canadian Heritage intends to renew its co-operation with the official-language minority communities in 2005-06 by signing co-operation agreements that call for an 11% increase for the current year.
For the 2005-09 period, the Forum and Canadian Heritage have set the common objective of involving developmental organizations in the creation of a global vision, determining the sequence of strategic priorities, and implementing the community's overall development plan.

Canadian Heritage is actively participating in the work of the Information Highway Advisory Council, which is made up of representatives from industry, trade unions, consumers and public interest groups.

 Grants for Archives in British Columbia
Programs (Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations and Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage) have provided grants to hire youth (to the age of 30) to carry out a wide range of archival projects.
Through Cultural Spaces Canada, the Department of Canadian Heritage provides funding to successful applicants of up to 33 per cent of total eligible project costs for construction and renovation of arts and heritage facilities as well as for projects that transform buildings that were not previously used for cultural purposes into arts or heritage facilities.
The Department also provides funding to successful applicants of up to 50 per cent of total eligible project costs for specialized equipment purchases and feasibility studies.

The Canadian Booksellers Association (CBA) has joined with Amazon's largest Canadian competitor, Indigo Books, to apply for judicial review of an administrative ruling by the Department of Canadian Heritage.
Last month, the minister of the Department of Canadian Heritage ruled that Amazon was not subject to the Investment Canada Act, which restricts non-Canadian investment in certain cultural activities, including bookselling.
When Heritage Canada ruled last month that Amazon was not subject to the act, the company said it agreed with the ruling because it had maintained all along that it was not interested in creating a new Canadian company.

Ottawa, February 24, 2005 - Officials in the Department of Canadian Heritage, including Minister of Canadian Heritage Liza Fulla, have further clarified some of the figures stated in yesterday’s budget for the five-year extension of the Tomorrow Starts Today funding program.
The December 2004 pre-budget announcement of $192 million announced in December 2004 for fiscal year 2005-06 included $20 million in internal reallocation which will continue to be allocated internally in the next five years.
CCA appreciates the department’s explanation, and restates its intention to examine the Main Estimates as soon as they are released to identify how funding from within the departmental budget will be redistributed on an annual basis to reallocate these funds.
