  Fisheries and Oceans Canada Summary
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), also referred to as Fisheries and Oceans Canada (Pêches et Océans Canada), is the department within the government of Canada with responsibility for the management and safety of waters under federal jurisdiction.
The department mandate is largely focused on the conservation and alottment of quotas for salt water fisheries on the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic coasts of Canada.
Whereas fisheries management wasn't as important as it became in the latter part of the 20th century, a major responsibility for the Deparment of Marine and Fisheries included the provisioning of rescue stations and facilities at the notorious shipwreck sites of Sable Island and St.

Landings statistics were collected by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans through the use of daily hails of fishing activities and logbooks compiled and submitted by the licence holders, with these records being verified and retained by the Department.
The fishery was influenced by the collapse of the Alaskan crab fisheries and the resulting demand for crabmeat from the Eastern Canadian fishery.
In the event of the collapse of the ITQ programme, the fishery could revert to a competitive fishery in which case the companies or their replacements would be entitled to return to the number of licences held in 1986, prior to implementation of the experimental programme.

DFO is the department responsible for protecting and maintaining the productivity of Canada's marine and freshwater resources, ensuring public safety and efficient vessel traffic, and generating the knowledge that policymakers need to make informed decisions.
DFO chose BizFlow because of its ability to track and route correspondence to the correct department based on business rules that determine which resource is best qualified to handle a particular issue or topic.
DFO wanted to streamline and improve the process so that correspondences would be automatically delivered to service representatives, drastically reducing cycle times, eliminating lost correspondences, and improving service to both citizens and policymakers.
