Jack was appointed as a Professor in Political Studies in March 2002, and Head of Department in March, 2003.
He is currently working on a book covering elections and public attitudes in New Zealand over the longer term, and on a more general study of electoral accountability in parliamentary democracies.
His current research interests are in New Zealand and comparative politics, elections, public opinion, and the consequences of electoral systems.

The political significance of the Treaty of Waitangi and the place of Maori people within the political system are examined.
As well as discussing leadership and the major institutions of government (parliament, prime minister, cabinet, the public service) the course considers the roles of political parties and interest groups, elections and voting, and the impact on the electoral and political systems of MMP (including coalition formation and government).

Dr Elizabeth Rata is a Principal Lecturer is the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Research at the Faculty of Education and an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Political Studies at the University of Auckland.
She was a 2003 Fulbright Senior Scholar to the Centre for Australian and New Zealand Studies, Georgetown University, Washington D.C. She is also a founding member of The Politics of Social Regulation Research Group at the University of Auckland.
