Through the first 10 days of January, the Philippine Department of Tourism cited a 10 percent increase in the total number of tourist arrivals to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila – the premier international gateway into the country – when compared with the same period last year.
The warning released by the U.S. State Department was made in the wake of the Feb. 14 terrorist blasts that ripped through Makati, a city in Metro Manila, and the southern cities of Davao and General Santos, killing 12 and injuring at least 150.
The Philippines experienced an unprecedented surge in tourism in 2004, but recent terrorist bombings and a subsequent travel advisory issued by the U.S. government threatens to curb that growth.

THE Department of Tourism announced that it will launch the nationwide search for "Best Tourist-Friendly Communities" as a means to intensify involvement of the host communities in tourist destinations throughout the Philippines.
This search was disclosed by Voltaire Magpayo, Business Development Chief of the Philippines Tourism Authority (PTA), who represented Barbers during the Culture of Tourism Conference and Workshop held recently at PTA Hundred Islands National Park Hostel, Barangay Lucap, Alaminos City, Pangasinan.
Meanwhile, former Political Affairs and Agrarian Reform Secretary Hernani Braganza shared his vision to make Pangasinan, mainly Alaminos City and the Hundred Islands, as the hub of tourism in Region I. Alaminos City Mayor Eduardo Fontelera also emphasized that local officials must set aside politics for tourism to prosper in their communities.
