The Department of the Ohio was an administrative military district created by the United States War Department early in the American Civil War to administer the troops in the Northern states near the Ohio River.
Ambrose Burnside assumed command of the Department of the Ohio.
On October 16, 1863, the Department of the Ohio (along with the Department of the Tennessee and the Department of the Cumberland) became part of the Military Division of the Mississippi, under the overall command of Ulysses S. Grant.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Insurance will be working in several cities statewide in mid-August to help answer questions for eligible Ohio workers who are registering for health insurance coverage available through the federal Health Care Tax Credit (HCTC) program, a provision of the 2002 Trade Adjustment Reform Act.
A Department representative will be stationed in registration centers in Columbus, Cleveland, Youngtown and Toledo run by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) — which administers the program.
The tax credit program will pay up to 65 percent of the cost of qualified health insurance coverage for eligible Ohioans who have lost their jobs or been laid off and lost pension benefits due to economic changes related to foreign trade issues.
