Deportivo Saprissa was founded July 16, 1935 by Roberto “Beto” Fernández in his shoe store in el barrio Los Angeles in San Jose.
Ricardo Saprissa had criteria for the location of the stadium, he wanted easy transportation access to the location and he also wanted it to be near the capital city of San Jose, but also at the same time he wanted to be close enough for the other provincial cities such as Alajuela, Cartago, and Heredia.
Estadio Ricardo Saprissa is the biggest soccer stadium in Costa Rica with a seating capacity of 23,112 and has an excellent view of the local mountains and downtown San Jose.
