Bank of America - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On the day of the 1987 stock market crash, BankAmerica was trading at $8 per share, although by 1992 it had rebounded mightily to become one of the biggest gainers of that half-decade.
This is because branch divestures are only required if the combined company will have a larger than 25 percent FDIC deposit market share in a particular state or 10 percent deposit market share overall.
Although Bank of America Corp. is much larger than its closest rivals in terms of deposit share, other financial services companies are larger on the basis of assets, profits and market capitalisation.

Not surprisingly, these patterns of growth in offices and deposits across the states roughly mirror the long-term growth of the state economies; of the 10 states listed in Table 3, five were also among the 10 states with the largest net addition of payroll jobs over the period.
While a number of banks are approaching their market share caps in certain states, there still appears ample room for institutions to grow through merger and acquisition activity.

Bankstocks.com: In Atlanta, Smaller Is Still Better
The FDIC released its deposit market share data for the banking industry late last month; if the numbers in the Atlanta market can be taken as representative of what’s going on in the industry as a whole (and they can be), the smaller players continue to systematically take share from the large banks.
Market Share Leaders and Laggards:  The rank of the top six players in Atlanta (Wachovia, Bank of America, SunTrust, Synovus, SouthTrust, and Regions) did not change from last year.
But this only translated into a measly 31 bps gain of deposit market share (this probably because so many branches are immature, and because many are in-store).
