Since a Governor of a State is the titular head of his party and sets the political tone of his State, neither Kennedy or Johnson would have considered it politically advisable to visit a State without the political support of the Governor.
The Governor stated that Texas was basically a one-party State where political differences had divided liberal from conservative elements for many decades and where, throughout the Governor's political career recurrent conflict between the two forces was considered a normal state of affairs.
Politically, the large size of the Women's Building would have allowed 4,000 people to be admitted and would therefore have benefited Kennedy by permitting his liberal constituents to participate in the luncheon.

If an adversary's witness whose deposition you have taken testifies significantly differently at trial than at the deposition, you can read the inconsistent deposition testimony into the trial record to impeach (attack) the deponent's credibility.
While your adversary's lawyer will probably attend the deposition and can consult with the deponent during recesses (breaks in the testimony), it is the deponent who has to answer the questions.
You can use a deposition to learn and ask about documents (or other tangible items) by simply using a Notice of Deposition (for your opponent) or a subpoena duces tecum (for a nonparty witness) to list items you want the deponent to bring to the deposition.

Victims who witnessed the deposition struggled to contain their emotions as Mahony’s attorneys coached the cardinal and cajoled victims’ lawyers, who in their blunt questioning conveyed a sense of moral outrage on behalf of people whose lives were ruined by a priest who might have been stopped had the cardinal done more.
At stake was not only the tenuous negotiations of hundreds of lawsuits alleging sexual abuse, or the pending prosecution of a few rogue priests, or even the possibility of broader conspiracy charges against Mahony and his colleagues, but the credibility of the last remaining symbol of influence, power and authority in the U.S. Catholic Church.
Yet he maintained in his deposition that three accused molesters were reported to him before 1985 — a claim that contradicts trial testimony he gave in 1998, in which he admitted only one.

Outside the royal family, the Sudairi Seven were regarded as the faction most favorably inclined toward economic development, political and social liberalization, and a close relationship with the United States.
Nevertheless, in terms of family politics, it was not clear whether the junior princes constituted a unified group, and if so, whether they were more favorably inclined toward the Al Sudairi faction or the Abd Allah faction.

Summers said in a sworn deposition made public this week that he urged a dean to keep Andrei Schleifer, director of the Russia project, on the Harvard faculty even after Schleifer was named as a defendant in a $102 million civil lawsuit involving the project in September 2000.
In a deposition given in March of this year, Summers, who was deputy secretary of the US Department of the Treasury when the investigation began, praised HIID's work and said removing Hay and Schleifer from the Russia project in April 1997 had compromised the US government's strategic aims in Russia.
Once the investigation became public, according to deposition testimony in the case, Schleifer moved to dismiss one of the project employees who had reported the appearance of conflict; she said she was being forced out in retaliation.
