Derailed Movie Review at Hollywood Video
Derailed is the all-too-appropriate title of Mikael Hafstrom's middling, noir-esque thriller starring Clive Owen and America's favorite divorcee, Jennifer Aniston.
Derailed is further marred by serious plausibility issues, particularly in the last act, when the supposed "big twist" is revealed.
Co-starring Giancarlo Esposito in a glorified cameo as a police detective, Derailed marks an inauspicious launch for the brothers Weinstein.

HD DVD Review: Derailed | High-Def Digest
'Derailed' is a movie that, like 'Fatal Attraction,' relies on characters making choices that in the moment make sense but overall are a bit morally fuzzy.
The standard-def DVD release of 'Derailed' was disappointing, with a soft, harsh transfer that suffered from the artificial edge enhancement.
'Derailed' came and went at the box office in a blink of an eye, despite the marquee value of Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen.

“Derailed” is, for the most part, a tight thriller that keeps a fast pace, and features some top performances throughout.
There are a few issues with the final act of the film that definitely could have used a bit of chop in order to get to the point, but it’s still a very enjoyable film (although the aforementioned attack scene is quite a disturbing segment), and it serves it’s purpose in the thrills department.
At the end of it all, “Derailed” is a tight thriller that at times reaches some truly original moments, but ultimately will remind you of most other films of it’s type.

Derailed marks the American debut for Swedish filmmaker Mikael Hafstrom, whose film will undoubtedly profit from a bit of fortunate timing, as it features Jennifer Aniston in her first post-Pitt appearance.
Derailed revolves around a successful advertising executive, played by an uncharacteristically meek Clive Owen who meets a woman, played by Jennifer Aniston, on a commuter train.
Pardon the pun, but at this point the film becomes derailed by it’s own plot twists and a revenge scheme that ultimately undermines the integrity of the characters.

But with Derailed, Van Damme comes perilously close to the bottom of the barrel (he's already been there, with Knock Off, and it's doubtful he'll ever do worse than that).
Derailed casts Van Damme as Jacques Kristoff (no, really), a commando of sorts who works on a freelance basis.
In Derailed, he gives virtually the exact same performance he always does - though Jacques is slightly happier than the majority of his past characters (Van Damme often plays bitter and depressed men who've lost something).

Derailed Movie Review - Derailed Movie Trailer - The Boston Globe
''Derailed" is a tawdry, predictable hunk of movie headcheese, and I still had a pretty good time with it.
She also has a cool exterior that hints at a softer core; this constitutes the one lonely nuance of Aniston's performance in ''Derailed," and, thespic duties thus dispatched, the actress is free to look dazed while contemplating visions of Angelina Jolie in a wood chipper.
So the juice in ''Derailed" is in the supporting roles, including RZA as Winston, the office mailboy and former jailbird who becomes Charles's unlikely protector on the mean streets of Chicago.

 Derailed (2005): Reviews
Derailed has a great setup, a good middle passage and some convincing performances.
The perky Aniston is both unflatteringly photographed and utterly unconvincing in the pivotal role of Lucinda, and overall the film has the oddly disconnected quality of '70s Euro-thrillers whose international casts spoke different languages on the set and were dubbed into conformity.

 Derailed
Most men who were married back in the 80's will probably never forget one of the most frightening cinematic experiences of their lives – the day they sat through director Adrian Lyne's infamous “Fatal Attraction” for the very first time.
That's because no matter how faithful they were to their wives, the controversial thriller hit a nerve, playing out like an extreme cautionary tale about how one simple act of infidelity could spiral out of control with serious, life-threatening consequences.
The difference is that where “Fatal Attraction” was a landmark film that was more or less grounded in reality, “Derailed” gets more absurd as it progresses before nearly derailing itself in the last 20 minutes.

 Derailed
In the hands of director Hafstrom, whose previous film, "Evil" was a foreign-language Oscar nominee, "Derailed" telegraphs its every turn while never making a credible case for the characters' unfaithful behavior.
Part of the problem is in the casting of its two dependable leads who both bring very specific qualities to the table -- a fundamental decency with Aniston and a soulful melancholy with Owen -- and those attributes simply don't serve this type of story effectively.
Also lacking is a distinct visual style, an attribute that the otherwise soapy "Unfaithful" had in spades (not to mention that terrific Diane Lane performance), leaving "Derailed," which happens to have been shot by "Unfaithful" cinematographer Peter Biziou, to chug along drearily to a long-awaited destination.
