Derb is the senior attorney with the Southern Environmental Law Center in Chapel Hill.
And over the last year, Derb Carter has been the field commander for the effort to halt the construction of the Navy's Outlying Landing Field on top of eastern North Carolina's most precious wildlands.
And his two decades of commitment to conservation assure us that Derb Carter will be in the fight till what we hope is the ultimately triumphant end.

derb(1): disassemble resource bundle - Linux man page
derb reads the compiled resource bundle files passed on the command line and write them back in text form.
This is especially important for derb since the locale name is not accessible directly from the compiled resource bundle, and to know which locale to ask for when opening the bundle.
derb will produce a file whose base name is either the value of the -l, --locale option, or the same as the base name of the compiled resource file itself.

 DERB - The DJ List
With the production of DERB one learns the value of simplicity which means easy beats, simple melodies, just simply DERB.
The year long joint venture along with the producer’s comprehension of the club scene and audience is a winning combination which ensures even more D E R B is to follow.
DERB is the catch all for simply, easy, rough, uncomplicated, nasty, perverted, or like the words of yesterday.

Crunchy Con: Derb's not a Christian anymore - Rod Dreher, Conservative blog, Beliefnet conservative politics and ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Via Ross Douthat, I came upon yet another reason why I think John Derbyshire is one of the most interesting conservative writers working today: his long self-interview about why he lost his religious faith.
An admirable quality of Derb's is his blunt honesty: as far as I can tell, he never shies away from saying what he thinks, even when it gets him into hot water.
God (or at least the idea of God, which as Derb observes is so great and universal a part of the human experience that due respect must be paid).

Derb — Where are you to defend this poor lady's honor?
Derb — It seems to me you are writing less and less about politics.
And yes, as the years go by, there is a rightward drift in my placing of topics in categories: the latter percentages show a definite tendency to swell, while the former diminish.

Gene Expression: Jesus H. Christ, Derb the pitiless
In any case, it is easy to stand by Darwin's legacy amongst fellow travellers, but over the past year Derb has been defending the scientific consensus over at NRO in the face of a wall of reader hostility and relative neutrality from his colleagues.
The philosophical passages strictly follow the Golden Rule of religious apologetics, which is: The conclusion is known in advance, and the task of the intellectual is to erect supporting arguments.
for a fact i know that derb is more persuaded by the possibilities of bioengineering then he was 4-5 years ago, when he placed it in the "fantasy loon" category.

That's been my view of the notion of nation-building in Iraq since the beginning, and was the primary reason for my many reservations about supporting the initial invasion.

Sean Gleeson » The Derb Penny Catechism
Derb is witty and pleasant, but not, as a rule, right.
I predict that within five years, he will have a nasty break with NR and write a “tell-all” treatise about how the movement has been hijacked by Jews or Mexicans or somebody.
Dear Sean: Would that the Derb’s ‘nasty break’ comes sooner that five years.

Of course, Derb likes the book, while the physical anthropologists who reviewed Before the Dawn didn't, but, the important point is that Derb actually reports on the substance of the book and its central arguments accurately, instead of mischaracterizing Wade in an attempt to mock him.

Show me one of these guys who dismisses insurance as being too socialist, the idea of sharing risk as a betrayal of the values that made this country great.
Maybe if Derb had told about the 81% increase in his premium, but then explained how he is more than willing to pay it, because that's what we have to do in order to ensure that we have the world's greatest level of care in this country.

Positive, this film is presented in widescreen and has a sharper image than the SD transfer.

By the way, John Derbyshire was arguing strongly at the Corner yesterday that the president was in fact Kerry’s intended target.
The Derb, however, was a party of one, showing a kind of angry dogmatism and intolerance toward both his NRO colleagues and readers that was most uncharacteristic of him.
National Defense was my “trump” issue, and in the end, it overcame everything else for me. If I’m right, and Darwinian evolution is Derb’s “trump” issue, he’ll move over to the Dems eventually.

Rod Dreher is editor of the Sunday commentary section of The Dallas Morning News, and author of "Crunchy Cons" (Crown Forum), a nonfiction book about conservatives, most of them religious, whose faith and political convictions sometimes put them at odds with mainstream conservatives.

It occurred to me after reading it that you and Derb share some important characteristics: a taste for 'ad-hocism', as expressed in the above Derb quote; a willingness to blurt out emotional truths, and damn the consequences; a deep erudition masked by folksy humility.
Needless to say, I think those are good things.
I think Robert got it right when he referred to Derb's "ad hocism." Derb makes ad hocism look really good.
